We say our dog click-clacks along our wooden floor.

Click-clacks is what we always used to call those toys that look like a string/stack of 5 or 6 wooden dominos connected by ribbons in a clever way to make them “cascade” down on one another when you turned them over. Anyone know the ones I mean? Not sure if they have a more “official” name…

Plop
Splash (?)
Murmur
ring
ding dong
wang wang (Chinese for woof woof?)
zoom
dribble
gurgle
gargle

clang
tinkle
squish

hiccup(?)

How has no-one mentioned fart or burp!?

and if your student actually wants to know how to spell “onomatopoeia”

you can sing the letters to the tune of “old mac donald had a farm p o e i a”

Ahh, cheers all.

I’ve just been reminded of the Danish for “flip flops” (thongs Aussie English) it is;

Clip clappern

What about this word “chickadee” any idea about the origins?
