Opening Shopee Merchant Account

Has anyone had any success getting pass the KYC verification step in Shopee. I want to sell goods as a company.
Or is Shopee another application which is anti-foreigner?
Any advice?

What’s the problem that happened when you tried? I’m registered as a seller but have never sold anything. I think I just did it out of curiosity.

I don’t remember having any problems. Why couldn’t you do it?

It says this when I get to the last step.
Did you register using a business or individual? I tried both and both failed.

As an individual.

I’ve done it twice now (the second time was after updating my ARC number), and both times were fine. Are you entering your name etc. exactly as it appears on your ARC?

Yes. Exactly. But it won’t accept my English name. It says to enter a valid name. So, I tried my Chinese name. It took it with no error message but when I got to the end it said the KYC error.

Okay, your information tells me it will accept an ARC. As it says, there is something wrong with my personal details. I double checked my birthday (in Taiwan year format). I checked that Tainan City was selected as ARC issuance location(it was indicated by 南åø‚, which is an odd representation of Tainan, but I confirmed it is correct). I THINK I selected the correct issuance type.

Is it perhaps that you’re trying to register as though you’ve got a Taiwanese ID rather than an ARC?

I only vaguely remember the procedure and I can’t check now because I’ve already done it, but I seem to recall a ā€œforeignerā€ option where you choose your nationality from a drop-down menu then take pictures of your ARC. I don’t remember the ā€œissued locationā€ and ā€œissued typeā€ fields, and I think I would remember if I’d encountered them (because I don’t know what they mean).

Was that the issue, @teacherfei, or can you still not register?

Still can’t register even after getting a Taiwanese to help me. @Andrew
Thanks for your help though.

Success at last. @Andrew. The issue is one needs to select their country of origin. The site doesn’t tell you that. I assumed I had to select Taiwan because I’m here and I’m dealing with shopper’s Taiwan site. But when I chose Taiwan, it tried to validate my ID against a Taiwan citizen database.
I hope the next person who has this trouble will see my solution.
Again, thank you for your help.

Yeah, that’s what I was trying to tell you with this:

…that you need to choose your nationality not ā€œTaiwanā€. I thought it was clear, sorry. Good that you got it sorted.

After reading it again, I see that you already gave me the answer. lol. It was clear. I guess I was just tired after trying it a hundred times.

Hi I’m a first time poster. I need help to figure out what I did wrong when signing up my shoppee account as a seller.

I have repeatedly done the IC verification using my ARC but it always fails after waiting for a few days. They always cited reasons such as ā€œphoto not clear enoughā€ even though I tried my best to take a clear photo of my arc with my face and information visible.

Is there anyone else in this forum facing similar difficulties with me regarding registering as a seller in shopee as a foreigner? Please share any tips that can help… thanks

It should work, and I don’t remember ever having to wait for a few days.

Would suggest taking the photo in decent lighting but no flash, being careful to avoid any reflection from overhead lights.

thank you very much for the quick response!

Having repeatedly failing the IC verification made me anxious and started thinking that my account is shadowbanned or something… cuz I was trying for 3 weeks and facing the same issues lol. I will try taking the ARC photo outdoors if necessary

So do they accept you as seller?

Very useful. I didn’t notice that. LOL! It’s staring right at me… and I didn’t notice it. I’m also puzzled by the ARC reissue question. I’m not sure which. I had a new one reissued. So I guess it’s that category. This is what Copilot gave me:

Here’s the translation of the dropdown options you highlighted:

  • 初ē™¼ → First issuance / Initial issue

  • č£œē™¼ → Reissue (replacement for lost/damaged)

  • ę›ē™¼ → Renewal / Exchange (usually when updating or replacing an old version)

The problem with all these Apps around the world is that most need proof of residence. I was trying to open this online bank account and it asked for verification of address. I actually gave it my bank statement and utility bill but both were rejected because they were photos of the bank statement. Apparently I have to download the bank statement then send it. However the downloaded bank statement doesn’t have an address. Wtf . Anyway just letting you know it’s not just Taiwan. Most Apps around the world are designed for US residents. PayPal merchant APP for example.

I have even had problems selling on Ebay as it includes Taiwan as the greater China area. A lot of these issues are caused by inflexible AI systems. It usually improves a little when you are able to contact a human being.

So here’s another numpty decision: asking for my card renewal date but highlighting the wrong date on cards (lower left). My card reissue date is on the top right! Go figure. I’m now waiting for them to tell me that’s wrong, too.

Could be that the application simply substituted ā€˜expiry date’ for ā€˜reissue date’ but failed to note the different position on the card. What’s even more weird: the AI system is reading the card, it knows the date already … why can’t it just auto-insert the date, like the rest of the information? Or is this just a step to auto-deny some users? Let’s see.

Had the same issue. Contacted customer service. It’s the top right date

Thanks!!! I’m just wondering if I selected the right one now!
