As in the title… any one have recommendations? I know that there are tons of 骨科 clinics all over, but looking for one with a doctor that speaks English. Mandarin is not great and I’ve struggled/managed in the past… but problem is not getting resolved.
Alternatively, any recommendations for a really good 骨科 clinic? One that will spend more than 5 minutes diagnosing you and then simply tell you to do rehab (heat treatment, electrical stim, etc)?
Mackay memorial hospital in Taipei. Check the doctors list and choose the one that specialized in your problem. But it’s really depend on the issue you have. At least in Mackay they always did all the test to me, including MRI yo check the ligaments.
If you don’t have a specific doctor in mind to recommend, it’s easier for OP to use TMUH to be honest.
Most of the doctors at TMUH have language/specialty information available in English (not the case at Mackay), and you can make the first appointment online without needing to register in person ahead of time (I remember this not being the case at Mackay, but it was a few years ago now).
No medical issue with Mackay — it used to be my default place to go when I needed to see a doctor — but TMUH is just a lot easier to use and find a suitable doctor if you don’t speak Chinese. The Mackay website is fairly confusing IMO, with the timetable just showing a list of doctor’s names to pick from at random.
Thanks for the rec, though, of course, there are no appt available until mid-December… which makes me wonder if my true issue is the language or just the fact that the health care system is somewhat over-loaded here
At the risk of getting flamed… have to say that I’ve had a much better experience back in the US, though that of course will only be true if you have good health insurance. Appointments are not rushed and just get a better sense that the provider is taking the time to really diagnose your problem
I’m not sure what you mean? There are seven orthopedic doctors there with appointments available within the next week, including two with appointments available tomorrow despite it being close to midnight.
Guess I was trying to fine tune a little too much. There were so many doctors to choose from, I only looked at the ones with “sports injury” in their profile
I wouldn’t necessarily assume that all profiles on there are comprehensive, especially in English — some doctors list a lot of details, whereas some just give minimal info or say “general cardiology” or whatever (which might be enough depending on the condition).
I really just use these profiles to try and get a basic idea of any doctors that might be particularly suitable but don’t rely 100% on them. It’s just better than randomly choosing from a list of Chinese and/or English names like at other hospitals. The photos don’t hurt either, for any prejudices we might have about older vs. younger doctors, for example.
That said, this guy has “Sports medicine & Sports injury treatment” at the top of his quite comprehensive profile and appointments available as early as Monday.
So have you encountered problems while trying to register online? Keep getting an error message saying “There seems to be a problem with processing your request. Please check your entered information and try again”. I seem to recall having a similar problem while trying to register at Adventist hospital.
I tried using a different browser (normally use Chrome, tried MS Edge) and same issue
If I omit info, the error message will tell me specifically what info I forgot to enter
I’ve never had an issue, no. I’ve just taken a look.
I already registered a couple of years ago so can’t go through the entire registration process again, but I get the error message you describe if I just enter an A(P)RC number into the “Personal Identification ID” field. The thing here is you need to precede your A(P)RC number with “@”. It’s written down in the instructions somewhere, but maybe it’s not obvious. Maybe try that and see if that was the issue?
Once you’ve done that, you go to the doctor’s page, select the option to book the desired appointment, answer “yes” (presumably) to the “Do you currently work and/or live in Taiwan?” question, then answer “yes” to the “Are you a new patient at our hospital?” question, and it should take you to a form where you fill out some basic personal information.
I think there’s another consent form to fill out that I printed out in 7-11, but you should just be able to do that at the hospital too. Then just go maybe 30 min before your actual appointment to do the final registration in the hospital, where they might take your weight and height and stuff if you don’t already know. There are assistants and equipment near the main cashier area that can help with that if necessary.
Chrome should work as a browser. I usually use Opera, but I’ve used Chrome before too. For an English website in Taiwan, it’s not terrible.
I’m looking for the same doctor. I’ve been to three so far an they all were terrible. The last one I went to did an MRI of my knee even though it was my calf that is having problems.
“Your knee looks fine!”.
“I know me knee is fine. Its my lower leg that’s the problem”.
“What kind of pain has your knee been giving you again?”
“IT’S NOT MY KNEE IT’S MY LOWER LEG”.
“OK I’'ll do an MRI of your lower leg then”.
It’s been a month and a half since I first saw this guy and got an x-ray and MRI. So now I have to start all lover with another doctor. Super annoying. He just simply wouldn’t listen/understand what I was saying. Which I find to be a common problem with doctors here.
