Overseas Taiwan Passport 僑民/無戶籍護照

Hello everyone!

I’ve been surfing the web recently about the limitations of this passport, and I stumbled across a Wikipedia article that lists all the countries I am unable to enter without a National ID number. The US passport isn’t too useful right now so I had hoped this new passport could grant me more freedom of movement, but it looks like that won’t be the case.

I wanted to ask if anyone who also holds an overseas/NWOHR status has ever encountered problems when entering Europe or other countries. Just curious because this clause seems like an often overlooked contingency when immigration officers are checking your passports. If you’ve had any experience or heard of anything, please let me know – thanks!

Depends on the country; if it’s a country that explicitly allows NWOHR passports (Vietnam, Colombia, Iran, Peru, etc.), there’s no problem. However, if you try to enter a country that does require an ID number, they will deny you entry if you don’t have one (it’s a real requirement that they look for, not just a small technicality).

What’s wrong with the US passport?

The entry bans on US citizens in many countries right now?

IIUC most of those are linked to where you are travelling from, not what passport you are traveling with. (Except that countries still let their citizens in.)

Thanks! Will keep that in mind.
