Whatever the company says about its relationship with you, the (Taiwan) tax office may have a different opinion.
The good news is that (Taiwan) tax deductions are supposed to be available for both employment income and business income. I would ask a (Taiwan) tax specialist.
For US tax, I would ask a (US) tax specialist. There’s one who hangs out here from time to time, a nice lady, but I’m not sure if she wants to be paged right now…
