Passing of Ashton Berridge from Taoyuan

I will Unfortunately let all Formosan’s know that Ashton Berridge of Taoyuan passed away tonight. Details are sketchy but he was at my house until 1230 am where we had approx 4 or 5 drinks in 5 hours, iwhen he left for home which was 2 floors above in the same building. He was in a great mood when he left so this is all puzzling, when he was found on a street across town 2 hours later not breathing and rushed to a hospital where he soon passed.

He was a teacher at Cam school in Nankan and I think Taoyuan.

He had been in Taiwan for 7 years I think, so I’m sure many people know him. Very sweet guy, The world is a little colder with out him.

This is all the information I can share at this time, and I’m sure more details will come in the following days.

That’s just terrible. Please let us know more when you can. :frowning:

sad

I’m in shock… I just saw him and I can’t believe he’s gone. An amazing guy that always had a smile and was a great shoulder to lean on.
If you hear any more about funeral details or a way I can send my love to his family please let me know.
I’m shocked… totally shocked.
Hugs to all that knew this incredible person.
WTF?
He was abducted from his apartment building and murdered?
No. It was a traffic accident from what I hear.

Terrible news! It’s awful when things like this happen.
My sympathies go out to his family and friends who will obviously miss him.

Out of consideration for the deceased, his family and friends, I would also like to ask that we keep the discussion in this thread respectful.

energy, and any others in the know, please keep us informed, and let us know if any assistance is needed. In other words, How can we help?

Yeah was a scooter accident. From what we were told he was wearing a helmet, but it had come off in the accident. But regaurdless of the helmet, he severed his spinal cord.

He hit the center median, then a tree and landed in the oncoming lane. Or so the ‘police’ tell us. Never sure how reliable that is but aparently no one else was involved of has seen it. He was just found that way.

I too am looking at what can be done, how we can help.

I’ll post what (if anything besides moral support for his wife) is needed and when.

Take care out there.

Damn!
This sad story is becoming increasingly & evermore eeriely familiar to the foreign community in Taoyuan/Zhong-Li .
I am not familiar with Ashton, but my heartfelt condolences & sympathy to those that did.
May His Memory Live On.

I just learned that Ashton’s mom is in town and I thought it would be nice to give her some pictures of her son’s life here in Taiwan. If anyone has pics of Ashton could you print them/email me the link/make a cd… and we can get them to her.

I think she’d like to see some photos of her son, happy.

thanks in advance,
stay safe,

That is a wonderful idea.

Wow, I haven’t logged on seriously for a few weeks due to trips away and I can’t believe this.

A really nice guy, this is so sad.

Condolences to his family and friends.

Oh man, this is what, the third horrendous incident in connection with riding a scooter on these boards in less than I think 18 months? And the guy was wearing a helmet and I presume, taking all due care. Folks I know it’s hard to get around in Taiwan without using a scooter but try not to do it more than you have to. I know the helmet didn’t do any good in this case but wear one anyway and damn the heat.
