Paying utility bills online

Which utility bills are you all able to pay online? I’m having trouble paying for 中華電信 because they use my passport number as my ID (instead of ARC number) and then they require Taiwan National ID format for app registration. Classic 外國人 bullshit. I know I can pay in a convenience store but I wanted to set up everything online for, well, even more convenience.

You can go to CHT office and ask them to automatically deduct the amount from your bank account when a bill comes out.

Until recently I was able to pay the power and water bill through JKOS. Now that’s no longer an option, annoyingly - but I believe it may still be possible with some credit cards?

After a lot of messing about my wife was able to figure out a way for me to pay the power bill with my credit card, but unfortunately by the time we did that, she was too tired to explain the process (for me to note it down), so presumably we’ll have to figure it all out again next time.

The land line / internet bill and my cell bill I pay out of a bank account, BUT those bills, and that bank account, are all in my wife’s name. I believe we have to do it that way because those bills are also in her name (I think because it was cheaper to set the cell plan up that way, a decade or more ago, rather than because I as a foreigner wasn’t able to do it).

Yes, automatic deductions are an option, but personally I dislike those.

the E.Sun bank website allows you to pay utilities online, i have paid Water and electricity bill online. didnt do phone bill because of the same ID problem. (water and electricity use the meter number and not ID number). Check your online banking for this option.

Yes, I am using the PiPay app for that. They have a special payment button for water and electricity requiring to scan the QR code. Only the gas bill (I think?) cannot be paid like that because the app lacks a matching feature.

So my suggestion would be to look for specific features in your banking, credit card, payment, … apps which allow utility payment. If possible, the app should have a dedicated button for that!

I think the EasyWallet app also has the possibility, though the promotions they offer for using the app to pay utilities are only available for Taiwanese Citizens and not foreigners. Payment is still possible, though.

I just have them all deduct from my credit card. Simples.

All you have to do is get all the bills. Electricity, Water, Gas, Phone. Go to the bank with them all and ask them to pay automatically with your credit card. Then they will mail you receipts instead of bills.

Moving house and need to cancel? Simples!! Simply call the bank and use the English service and tell them to stop deducting for the gas, power and water…

That one should be doable. Mine just comes out of my bank account each month, and the contract isn’t even in my name. It wasn’t difficult to set up, but I guess you’d need to go into a branch.
