Payment gateways/ merchant accounts

Does anyone here have any experience using payment gateways/ merchant accounts that will accept payments globally. I’m looking to sell a product online That I can sell globally with China a particular target. A lot of them seem to require you to be based in the US.

I checked many, but most of them seem to not want to deal in RMB or Unionpay credit cards (the Chinese card of choice).

Thing is, I don’t want to be dealing solely in RMB, but other currencies too, including NT.

I’m not too well versed in this area, so any help you have or experience that you folks have had will be most helpful!

I was under the impression that China (and Taiwan too) tend to opt for cash-on-delivery over online payments, due to trust issues as much as anything else.

Are Chinese in China able to buy in foreign currencies, or are they restricted to RMB transactions? I thought the currency was controlled.

I know at least three people who have expressed an interest in a payment gateway for Taiwan ATM transfer, to be used with CMS like Drupal or Joomla. I also know a guy who has his own system, for a site built using proprietory code. His developer team is extremely busy, so i doubt he will be able to help you out. And there have been many requests to the developers of eCommerce solutions such as VirtueMart for something that works in China. Payment gateway is a part of an eCommerce merchant account. A merchant account is the service that enables you to accept card payments. Payment gateway is an online service that merchant account providers use for transferring payment details between the merchant website and the bank processing center. The payment gateway will be integrated directly with your shopping cart. The integration process varies by providers and will be handled by their technical staff. Generally the following documents will be required during a merchant account application process:

  1. A merchant application - you will have to complete and sign this form. It includes general information about you and your business.
  2. A copy of your organization’s Articles of Incorporation, unless you are a sole proprietor.
  3. A copy of a voided check for the account that you will want your money to be deposited into.
  4. Business or personal financials. Your tax returns for the last two years may be requested if your business is new.
