What is Pecha Kucha night?
Pecha Kucha Night, devised by Astrid Klein and Mark Dytham (Klein Dytham architecture), was conceived in 2003 as a place for young designers to meet, network, and show their work in public. (Admittedly, it was also a way to get more people to visit SuperDeluxe - their then newly opened multimedia event space in Tokyo).
But as we all know, give a mike to a designer (especially an architect) and you’ll be trapped for hours. The key to Pecha Kucha Night is its patented system for avoiding this fate. Each presenter is allowed 20 images, each shown for 20 seconds each - giving 6 minutes 40 seconds of fame before the next presenter is up. This keeps presentations concise, the interest level up, and gives more people the chance to show. It can be it fashion, art, design, graphics, finished projects or holiday snaps which feed the minds and creative souls.
Pecha Kucha (which is Japanese for the sound of conversation) has tapped into a demand for a forum in which creative work can be easily and informally shown, without having to rent a gallery or chat up a magazine editor. This is a demand that seems to be global - as Pecha Kucha Night, without any pushing, has spread virally to over two dozen cities across the world. And Pecha Kucha night is NPO (Not to Profit Organization).
Pecha Kucha night in Taipei
“See and be See” is the Value of Pecha Kucha night, Thru this event, We help designer, and creative people to show off their works, and see other designers, or creative people’s works. We had permission form Pecha Kucha night to hold at least four times Pecha Kucha night in Taipei from 2006/10 to 2007/11. We would be grand to have this event to connect the design society to the world thru Pecha Kucha night Global network.
These are the basic rules for Pecha-Kucha:
-
There will be 12 people showing 20 images each.
-
20 images in JPEG format (size: 1024 x 768 px.)
-
Name your images with your initials followed by consecutive numbers, i.e. PJ-001.jpg, PJ-002.jpg, PJ-003.jpg, etc. Once you have your images, please e-mail them to us (no later than a day before the event). We usually have a page with a preview image of each presenter before each event, so please also send us an image that you want for your thumbnail.
-
You have 20 seconds to show each image. The presenter has no control over this. It will be programmed on a computer, so you should be fast and we recommend you practice your presentation. Please follow the format, this makes easier for us to run the show and handle hundreds of images : )
-
The doors open at 7PM (19:00) & the event starts at 20:20
Pecha Kucha is a lot of fun for short attention fragments. We welcome a broad mix of participants, from well-known professionals to students, recent graduates, and new firms presenting their work for the first time. .
Come thirsty and bring along your friends!
