This is a pretty self-answering question. We know we’re 99% foreigners/westerners here; that’s pretty much why we’ve built the site. Sure we have a few Taiwanese of one sort of another posting here but it’s not many.
Do you include ABTish people in foreigners?

I don’t even know if I include myself. I’ve spent my entire adult life here.

I dislike Aboriginal for Indigenous Taiwanese.
As I was arguing with a coworker today:
Jeremy Lin is Taiwanese because he looks Taiwanese, has a Chinese name and his parents are Taiwanese
This applies to many artists here who did a Gloria Estefan: did not speak the mother tongue…until they took lessons…after they became famous…
As to Mainlanders… if someone was born in China, came to Taiwan briefly, got an ROC passport then migrated to U.S. and spent 40 plus years there or was born in China got an ROC passport also migrated to U.S. and spent there a lifetime…They are Taiwanese.
Out of curiosity, why? Do you object to it just in English or in Chinese as well?
The a word is on “that” list. Mainly because of the derogatory term “abo” in Aussie. Funnily enough some indigenous Taiwanese have adopted the term to self identify with.
I think it sounds derogatory to the people, Indigenous is correct without a sound of animosity.
My way of thinking, even if not acceptable to others.
- I am a foreigner and I think foreigners are GREAT.
- I am a foreigner and I hate myself.
- I am/was a member of the band Foreigner.
- I am not a foreigner, and I think non-foreigners are GREAT.
- I am not a foreigner and I hate myself. Can I hang with you guys?

This is all being over-semanticized into stupidity.
Nobody in the world ever walked up to you and said, literally, “What are you??”
It’s the 21st fucking Century.
The New World has been populated for centuries.
Convoluted combinations of origin are nothing special.
If you ask cartoon dog girl what her Nationality is, she’ll tell you what passport(s) she holds.
If you ask her what her ethnic origins (or other similar term) are, she’ll tell you what her Pop’s roots are combined with her Ma’s.
But even THAT might not address the question.
I know a kid who, when you ask, will tell you she’s Taiwanese/Canadian.
Technically, though, she could tell you she’s Ukrainian Jewish/Celt-Norse/Cree/Han Chinese/Aboriginal Taiwanese/Nipponese (I think).
Make a poll for that.
