Hello! I am new in Taipei. I want to bay 2 guinea pigs for my son. Is there a realy good pet shop ? We was in Shilin Night market, but it was terrible. Poor pets in small cages with grids to Klien on the cage floor. We need also a big cage to without grid.
But the important question is: who cares in the summer holidays ? We leave Taipei for 2 month…
We need also some place to look after the animals. Is there some pet Hotel or something for Guienea pigs? I have no idea…
Please help<<<<!!!
Thank You!
Anna
Rather than buy a Guinea pig, you could maybe think about contacting this organization who adopt out unwanted small pets, rabbits, ferrets, guinea pigs, etc
As with most pet stores they are terrible.
Not sure about summer holiday hotels but this organization may be able to help with that too.
Try some vet offices, they normally have the contacts about most pets and they work with most animal shelters in the area and can provide you with numbers/websites…also, a lot of vets can speak English.
The two big chain pet stores I usually see in Taiwan are PET PLUS 寵物達人館 and 魚中魚寵物水族館( not sure if they have an English name). The second one is the pet store that has the red sign and the Chinese character “fish” written in yellow. I wouldn’t buy a dog or cat from either of them, but something like a hamster or guinea pig would be fine, in my opinion. Their stores are clean and they have lots of supplies.
thank You for the answer! were is this second pet shop ( adress) or how can I find it?
Both of these pet stores are chain stores, so they’re all over the island.
Here are links to their locations. petplus.tw/company/index.html (I know of one in ZhongHe Global Mall and BanQiao train station)
anna,
If you still want guinea pigs, and can get to Tienmu OK, send me a PM with your contact info and I’ll put you in touch with a friend who is trying to give away two or three guinea pigs. (Her “two girls” had babies…)
Oh i am very happy about it! So we bought a big cage in a Pet Plus Store but all animals was there ill… I am living in Shilin near Wendels backery . Please contakt me anna_jochim@gmx.de
How old are the babys? But I still have not found a space to care in summer have you any idea? )
Thank you!
Greetings Anna
I noticed at the zoo the other day that the service counter offered an “animal adoption service,” and that their guinea pig cage was absolutely busting at the seams with the cute little guys. Putting two and two together I bet you could pick one up there.
Oh Hello, Thank you , when was that?
I was often in Zoo but i never see that…

I believe the service counter is near the Family Mart on the right-hand side after you walk in the zoo, but before you get to the flamingos. I think you can also rent strollers from there.
I could be wrong, about that. I didn’t really look into the animal adoption thing, but I saw a bunch of people getting strollers for their kids. I ate lunch near there, so I was just casually observing things.

just the other day. you’re right scomargo. the service counter is to the right when you come in through the main gate, in the pavilion with the seats and convenience store. I didn’t ask about it, I’d try to call them and make sure. “animal adoption service” was one of their posted services.
anna, you would do well to find an exotic-animal vet near you, too, in case you need one in a hurry. Thankfully, there are a number of these springing up around Taipei, so tell us your area and I’ll let you know if I know of one near you.
My wife’s coworker gave us a couple of “pudding mice” (mongolian hamsters) that her child apparently grew tired of.
My daughter’s had them for a few months now and just loves them. They are great pets, with distinct personalities, funny behavior and they haven’t bitten us yet.
Of course, we’d prefer a dog or cat, but we don’t have the time or space for such animals and, besides this is a good introduction to furry animals. Maybe if she passes this test, which she’s doing, some day we might move up the pyramid.
For now, though, we’re very happy with pudding mice. Emily’s friends love them too. Whenever a friend visits they immediately run to play with the puddings.
They are great pets. We’ve had a couple. You’re lucky you haven’t got a bitey one though. Most will nip you and can’t really be held. You’re also lucky they get along and don’t decide to have a war to the death for control of their living space. Finally, just in case you didn’t know their life span is about 2 years max.
One of ours can be held no problem, but the other doesn’t like to be held.
I was nervous from the beginning, because I recalled being bitten by pet rodents when I was a kid, so I use great care when handling them, and Emily hasn’t complained but I noticed she seems a little apprehensive of the one that doesn’t like being handled.
They did fight like crazy but we have two cages so we separated them and now we’re ok. Actually, I didn’t know if the fighting was territorial or amorous (don’t know their genders), but one won every time, forcing the other to lie on its back in a corner, little paws in the air, squealing loudly. In separate cages it’s no longer an issue.
Life span. Yea, Emily treats them very well, so I think they’ll live long lives for pudding mice, but I realized one day they’ll die and it will be very sad, but I guess we all have to learn to deal with death eventually. I guess it will be a sad, learning experience when that time comes.

I checked on the zoo website and I believe it actually refers to like a sponsorship program - take a look here - tinyurl.com/7d9j28c
Don’t know what the deal with the guinea pigs was, but it could be a coincidence (or something else entirely)
