PGO G-Max 220

Hi guys,

Anyone know if these are good or not? also if i get bored of the power can these scooters be modified easily?
They reliable?

I see they for sale for $115 000, the price makes me a bit scepticle for a 220i.

Via a quick web search in Chinese, it doesn’t appear that there are any big complaints about the G-Max. And, I do see that they’re quite common on the roads, which says something about the reliability. On the other hand, my friend had one of the worst experiences with a different model PGO scooter.

In terms of modifications, there are quite a lot available for this beast, but not as much as saaay… a Yamaha Cygnus, SYM Fighter, or Kymco Racing.

That said, the G-Max has a frame approximating a motorcycle, which is better in all handling and power aspects… but worse for storage space.

I also did a bit of a search, my chinese isn’t very good and neither is google translate… hehe, so i wasn’t too sure about it.
I haven’t seen that many on the road, but then again , i haven’t seen many racing king 180’s on the road either, which is my other choice.

I know racing king pushes more power and is lighter, i do still think the g-max would perform better carrying my weight (85-90kg) being a 220cc, the other factor is the seat storage space on the 220 is really small, only enough for a helmet, and no baggage space… so i dunno which one to choose…
And i know the 220 has better handling cos of the frame…

Let me leave it in your guys hands,

What would you choose?

Racing king 180 or g-max 220?

I’ve had the pleasure to ride one of those. Felt like a hot knife through butter…awesome brakes too. But way too bulky for me. Sure a guy would be better on it. I haven’t seen many modified ones…

if you want to spend money on modifying it…buy a 2nd hand one:D

and, haha , it’s possible to modify anything here:D

tw.page.bid.yahoo.com/tw/auction/e53547151

The thing is, i would only modify if i feel the power is not enough for me, i am not looking to race on the track at this stage, just looking for an enjoyable ride… to be honest, i am scared to buy any second hand vehicle in Taiwan as i am pretty sure its been abused… to what extent, i am not willing to risk, thats why i would prefer to buy new…

If it was myself, and I only had those two choices (new), I would choose the Kymco Racing King 180…

Reason #1 - Kymco is the most reliable brand in Taiwan… heck, even the world!
Reason #2 - The exacting attention to detail from Kymco can’t be beat… PGO doesn’t cut it when it comes to detail.
#3 - The G-Max has way too little storage… under-seat storage aside, there’s nowhere to put stuff in front of your feet.
#4 - The resale value on PGO scooters are horrible, because they’re not in demand.
#5 - If you’re over 23, then cough, you’re going to look ridiculous riding a scooter that’s for the under-23 crowd.

Durbs…if you buy a second hand bike from a store, it means they have taken the whole thing apart and cleaned it. I went to a store before that fixed everything for free for the next 4 months. The PGO is really hard to find second hand though, because there is a really small market for them. I myself have a Hartford Magic 125 and mechanics roll their eyes when I enter their store. Everything is not where it’s supposed to be…parts are harder to find. Don’t know if its the same with PGO.

Before you blow a fortune on one, try to find one second hand and see if you can ask the store to ride around with it. See how it feels. If you spend that much money on it, and want to modify even more, you will never ever get anywhere near what you want for it when you resell.

but I do get it. Once you like the look of a bike, it’s really hard to be drawn to something else. What do you think of the new BWS?

wow, check the exhausts on some of these

Thanks everyone, with those reasons, it seems like the racing king is a better buy and a bit less of a headache,

I was a little worried about getting a racing king cos i really don’t see many around, yet they are supposed to be so good… guess maybe it is just the price that stops people buying it… \

Gmax is really pretty though… guess maybe it is a bit flashy… liked the motorcycle frame and other features…

Oh well, having a wife and kid, i guess the racing would be better for storage…

Battery 9, thank you, your comments on the hassles of getting a pgo repaired has pretty much put my decision in stone…

I think a Racing King it shall be… sure if the power isn’t enough, there will be plenty of parts available soon…

Damn, some of thse bikes are hot… i still like them, but i don’t think it would be worth buying one…

Still gonna buy brand new, i don’t trust a lot of those stores that sell bikes… and their mechanics too…

Thank you guys, you have helped me a lot… wouldn’t want to buy something i would regret…

i used to own a g-max 200, i increased the engine to 230cc and installed a larger PE carb… went like stink.

anyway it had no storage, was too heavy, drank craploads of fuel and seemed to suffer with a random electricity cut which would cut the power to the engine and refuse to start for 5 mins… hours and hours of checking the electrics and never found the problem :ponder:

All in all i would buy a Yamaha over anything else, had lots of those and they never went wrong, even tuned.

The only reason you don’t see many of the 180 Racing Kings is because they’re so new, and they’re much more expensive than the kids can afford… but, the 150 Racing is very, very common.

For example, the common 150 Racing is only around $80,000, whereas the 180 Racing King is $100,000.

My friend has a 150 Racing, and dude, compared to my SYM GT Evo 125, the acceleration is amazing…

Hey smelly, hehe…

Is the electrical fault common with pgo’s? or just a random fault?

Shawn… true i guess i just kind of expected it to sell a lot quicker with all the hype around it…

Anyways, i think my evo’s acceleration has improved, think the engine is run in properly now… but, still not good enough, giving it to my wife, The racing is mine…

Besides, my wifes uncle even said, i look too big on a 125cc… must look like a lollipop from the front… hehehe

Hey, what colour is your GT Evo? Black, right?

I’ve noticed that scooters in the $60K price range sell really well when they first come out… and that the more expensive ones take longer to populate the streets. In terms of our GT Evo’s, I’m starting to notice more, but they’re still relatively rare. And, I’ve mostly seen white or black. Grey, sometimes, and brown? Never!

I’ve seen exactly three Racing Kings on the streets of New Taipei City since they came out.

Yes, maybe you do look like a grown man on a tricycle… haha. The Racing King should fix that right up.

Oh, and one last thing I discovered… synthetic oil makes a noticeable difference in terms of smoothness of engine and acceleration, at least on my scoot, anyway. It’s $150 for regular oil, and $320 for the good stuff…

yeah, I usually spend over NT300 on oil…it comes out of big blue tanks:) Makes a huge difference.
Do the racing 180 come with those red and blue LED lights in the front (circles) or are those modified?

I normally buy mine for $400 per can, pretty expensive but you cant play when it comes to oil… Yes, mine is black, i have never seen a brown gt evo, seen loads of grey ones, a few white and black ones… Why did you choose brown anyways? easy to hide dirt? mine gets filthy, typical for black though…

It does come with driving lights, like the audi’s do, except they are in a line along the bottom of the lights, i think u might be referring to angel eyes (HID lights)? If you are, i don’t think they are standard, probably modified, maybe wrong though, never seen one at night, so can’t tell you…

I chose brown because I like the colour… well, maybe I like it because it’s been appearing in more and more places. Like, on BMWs, shoes, ASUS tablet computers, etc. I guess I’m just a “folla fashion,” as they say in Jamaica.

Well, here are two pics that I snapped just now, of a suped-up PGO G-Max for your consideration: i.imgur.com/5KZD7.jpg

it’s such a pity that there is no space to place groceries or bags by your feet. Especially if you have a baby. I love the look of the G-max, but I need space by my feet for my Costco trips:D

the Yamaha Cygnus-X is a WAAAYYY better deal then the G-max.
if you buy brand new the cygnus goes for 78,000 and for another 15,000 you can upgrade the engine to a 58.8 piston )which is about 150cc) and matching transmission upgrades and it will totally whup the G-max.
I am currently running the above setup and I can even outdo the racing king
