I’ve had my Tigra 150 for 6 months and put 4000 km on the clock. I’ve had it long enough to provide a fair review.
Prior to buying I had some concerns about reliability issues, specifically the engine cutting out due to a computer fault. The bike cut out once near the 1000 km mark, but I’m happy to say it’s been fine ever since.
Pros:
Plenty of power for Taiwan
Very comfortable
Stable
Corners well
Great stopping power
Engine immobilizer
Good bike management/computer display
Powerful lights
The bike has good acceleration; I’m talking scooter and not Ninja speeds here but the power is certainly enough to have fun. If you want to get ahead of the crazy traffic or pass someone in the mountains then you can.
I added a padded top box and my partner actually fell asleep at the back while on the North Cross Highway, and unlike my previous scooters here I don’t get numb shoulders or numb bum as much compared to previous scooters.
Braking is strong and the ABS has come in handy a few times. Overall it’s positive, however I do have one issue which I will mention below.
The system display on the dash is good because it handles tire pressure. My front wheel ran with low pressure for a few days and I was surprised how much extra fuel I used.
Cons
A couple of issues with reliability that relate to ABS and the coolant hose.
The engine itself comes with a lifetime warranty for the first owner, other parts range from 0-2 years warranty. I’ve had no problems with the engine.
The coolant hose split after I had the bike for 3 months. They replaced it under warranty and it’s been fine since. It could just be bad luck or that I hit something and punctured the hose.
My main issue:
Sometimes the front break feels like there is something resisting my attempts to pull the lever. If I continue pulling then the lever gives way by popping forward and the build up of pressure is released. However, it prevents a smooth stop because when the pressure pops the brake lever jumps forward then brake pressure is reapplied. It puts the bike out of shape a little. This isn’t a constant thing; one day it happens and the next it doesn’t. I wonder if it’s an ABS issue and is engaging way too early (the first cm pull of the lever) or if it’s air or some other obstruction in the system. The back brake works fine.
I feel I should balance that by saying that when the front brake works as it should then it is fantastic, it’s smooth and consistent. Unfortunately, because my mechanic can’t see it then it’s not a problem.
Overall I think it’s a great bike. It’s fast, comfortable and stable. My only gripe is the issue with the front break, which is most likely fixable, but I can’t get anyone to check it out.
