Phasing Out of Carrefour Brand Products

Trader Joe is owned by Aldi.

Yes, but oddly, we don’t have Aldi here in the Bay Area as far as I know

The Trader Joe canvas bags probably makes a good souvenir just like when Tammy and I went to Hawaii for a few days at The Four Seasons on the big island and they had these canvas tote bags. I think they had four different printed designs on them so Tammy chose two out of four they weren’t super cheap. I think it was like $100 for two something like $50 each or something, but they don’t sell these bags in the stores in Hawaii. Basically it shows that you’ve stayed at The Four Seasons there because you can only buy them at the four seasons there apparently didn’t see a lot of people with them when we came back to the East Bay for some reason Tam ended up losing one of those bags and she was really upset about that so I said well no worries let’s just call the hotel and order up another bag so the hotel was super nice on the phone and they emailed us the two bags that they had right now the two current examples and we couldn’t make up our minds or that is to say Tammy couldn’t make up her mind so we said OK we can’t make up our mind but we chose say one of them and so we ordered one and lo and behold when they when the bag arrived a week or so later the hotel actually sent us both bags and only chargef for one now that was something

That’s how a five star hotel goes above and beyond with their customers, and it brings them back

yeah, they’re always lagging behind on that kind of stuff, aren’t they? I was telling my sister about this (she loves shopping at TJ’s) and she told me that almost every time she goes to one now, she noticed Asian people buying as many of the canvas bags as they possible can, lol….

A couple more I just thought of…. I will miss the balsamic vinegrette glaze and the sun dried tomatoes…. these are much cheaper than any of the other imported varieties and still decent quality.

Article on TJ’s bag

I just went to Carrefour for a regular weekend shopping run, having this in mind as I shopped…. I noticed that the 1 liter extra virgin olive oil was at a good price and only two left, so I got both, lol….. 399 is pretty good. I think I will also miss this as it was usually the best priced extra virgin olive oil available. I also bought a huge 24 pack of Carrefour brand tissues (last one left and I think the best value on available) and the Carrefour brand batteries are marked down to an insanely low 35 NT for a pack of 8. I noticed these were very cheap probably a little over a month ago, and have been stocking up on them since. Right now, I have an absurd amount of Carrefour brand batteries sitting around, lol…. definitely need them for all kinds of things and especially around Christmas.

If possible always get the Costco olive oil

Yeah I’d definitely trust Costco quality far more than anything from Carrefour.

I don’t have a membership.

Neither do I. However, if you know someone who does it’s fantastic value for money.

Most of the stuff in supermarkets is seed oiled junk food.
I would not give most of it to a pig.
Go organic.

Looked it up there’s like two dozen Aldi in Calif mostly in SoCal with the closest to Bay Area in Fresno

I saw kirkland olive oil in coupang. Otherwise Uber eat.

I’d guess there are some synergies from them having stores in other English speaking countries / Commonwealth countries.

Taiwan would be a small market with completely independent laws and regulations - and the need to translate everything to traditional Chinese.

For most of their products they had to switch to Australian and Asian suppliers to keep costs down.

They already operate in China too.

Carrefour’s own branded yogurts are made with fresh milk, unlike most brands that are made with powdered milk. They are also cheaper than those powdered milk crap.

I’m going to miss that product, along with the made-in-France confitures / jams.

As a few folks have mentioned, Costco has acceptable, sometimes even superior, substitutes for most of the Carrefour stuff.

As for the membership, (and the sizes of everything!), if you’re a small family team up with another family (or two!) and go stock up for everybody once a month.

If you’re single, find somebody with a membership and ask to tag along, or find some other folks in the same situation and team up.

It is definitely worth it!

I find the choice at Costco too limiting, aldi is much better (if only they were here). Also, the sizes of everything too big and wasteful. I question the savings, much of their stuff is expensive (at least the items I would consider buying).
