Photographers in Taipei?

I do black and white photography and like to make my own prints.

I know the world’s going digital, but from what I’ve seen in the West, b + w photography is alive and well, and it’s easy to find photo paper, film, etc.

I’m wondering what the situation is like in Taipei. Any photographers in Taipei know where I can find darkroom space in the city? What about supplies?

I’ll be moving there in August.

Lots of b&w done in Taipei. Supplies are no problem. Darkroom space? There used to be a photo school in the Ding Hao area that rented their darkroom…but it was expensive as I recall. After you get to Taipei, go over to the photo gallery TIVAC ( tivac.net/ ) and ask Mr. Chen for info. The best photo lab in Taipei (Zone 5) is a 2 minute walk from TIVAC.

Agreed.

Name? Address?

I’ve posted the address before…somewhere here… But, the name is Zone 5 on 遼寧街 on the right side just north of Bade Rd…before you get to Chang An E. Rd. Here’s a map to TIVAC:

The Dragon Lord smiles upon you.

Anyone know how I can get access to a dark room for black and white photography in Taipei? I’ve asked people on the camera street in between Taipei Main Station and Hsinmending and they said most people have their own private dark rooms. Some schools have these rooms, but they’re usually only opened to students. I would love to find a place I can rent a room by the hour. Does anyone have any leads?

I am arriving in Taipei on the 4 of August and will be teaching English. I do alot of black and white photography and am in need of a reliable individual that can develop black and white negatives and make good contact sheets.

From what I’ve heard, the labs in Taipei are careless and ruin negatives sometimes. This I find interesting, since we normally don’t pay photo labs to ruin our film.

I am not going to have a living situation that will permit me to set up any kind of darkroom, and so I need the services of a professional photographer or an experienced amateur who would be wiling to occasionally do some developing/contact sheets for me. Someone who could work with standard 100, 125, and 400 speed black and white film as well as some less common film such as Agfa’s APX 25 or Kodak’s 3200 speed TMax.

I am looking for someone who does a fair amount of black and white work on his/her own and wouldn’t mind developing a couple of extra rolls every now and then.

If anyone might be willing to do this, please PM me and we can discuss it further. Alternatively, if anyone can recommend a first rate professional photo lab in Taipei, I would be pleased to have its contact information.
