New York
I think it’s on the Ukrainian side at the moment, but hard to tell.
The press will certainly play with the name if that village comes into focus one day.
“The Russians Took New York!”
New York[1] or Niu-York[2] (Ukrainian: Нью-Йорк, romanized: Niu-York, Ukrainian pronunciation: [ˈnʲʊ jɔ̈rk]) is an urban settlement in Toretsk urban hromada of Bakhmut Raion of Donetsk Oblast, at 37.9 km NNE from the centre of Donetsk city. From 1951 to 2021, the settlement was named Novhorodske (Ukrainian: Но́вгородське, romanized: Novhorodske).[3][4] New York is administratively subordinated to Toretsk city, that is located about 10 km north of New York. Population: 9,917 (2021 est.)
The settlement first appeared on maps in 1846 under its original name of New York and was then situated in the Yekaterinoslav Governorate of the Russian Empire. The wife of one of the founders was from the United States.[6][7] According to official data, in 1859, the village consisted of 13 households, 45 male residents, 40 female residents, and a factory and was formally named Oleksandrivske.[7][8] The precise origin of the settlement’s name is unclear.[9]
I’ve been spending at least 5 minutes going over maps of Ukraine everyday. I didn’t now the wife of a founder of the village was from the US though. They should have named it Nova New York.
I often watch the updates on this channel: https://www.youtube.com/c/RoadHomeMotorcycleVlogs
Those villages along the front look really poor and depressing. But there are some nice pockets too, rivers where people used to go for a swim, some forests, nice old churches. Surprising that the farmers are able to grow crops there. You often see the military in fields with wheat ready for harvest for example.
Are we going to get a regular one soon?
Maybe we are inching our way back to the regular ones first? It’s a trench war out there, you know.

Wait…what just happened?
While you were searching cat 'n cow pics…
Was this just another one-off, or was it the beginning of the next glorious stage of this year’s Pic Quiz?
It’s part of the “inching back to regular mode” attempt.
