if you can’t read Chinese:

in the first row enter your sq meter value in the first box, and then click on the first button to the right of the second box

in the second row, enter your ping value…

it’s a snap

But as you know in Taiwan they put the common spaces in your ping total … so you could end up with 50 ping living space …

It could be even less than that. For an apartment listed as being 60 ping an actual living space in the forties or even thirties wouldn’t be all that unusual, especially in new places.

I really like the this topic.
And yes you really need a computer to solve this riddle.

Yep, coz, I don’t feel like going through the agony of multiplying or dividing by 3.3

And for those are are metric system aliens, here’s a link to convert to square foot as well.

Pings per Square Meter (平方公尺)

1 ping (坪) = 36 square Taiwanese feet (平方台尺)

By definition, 3.3 Taiwanese feet (台尺) = 1 meter(公尺), so 1 Taiwanese foot = 0.303030303… meters.

Therefore, 1 square Taiwanese foot (平方台尺) = (0.3030303)^2 square meters = 0.09182736 square meters.

Therefore, 1 ping (坪) = 36 square Taiwanese feet (平方台尺) = 36 * 0.09182736 = 3.305785 square meters.

Pings per Square Feet (平方英尺)

1 Taiwanese foot (台尺) = 30.3030303… cm and 1 foot (英尺) = 30.48 cm (exactly). Therefore, 1 Taiwanese foot (台尺) = 0.994194 feet.

Therefore, 1 ping (坪) = 36 square Taiwanese feet (平方台尺) = 36 * (0.994194)^2 = 35.583175 square feet.

Has weights and volume as well as bed sizes and a few bits

To convert ping to square meters, in your head:

  1. Multiply number in ping by 10.
  2. Divide by 3. That’s your answer, accurate to better than 1%.

Looks like this question was from 2007. In this decade, you can simply type it into Google, e.g. search for something like “30 ping to sq m” or “30 ping to sq ft”
