Pizza Rock #8

There are several Pizza Rocks throughout Taiwan.

I went to the recently opened one in Yonghe district, Pizza Rock 8.

The pizza was better than I anticipated, and was more American-style thin crust
than Italian-style (less tomato sauce) or Taiwanese-style (like kim chi or mayonnaise pizzas).

The minestrone soup was ok.

I will return to check out their pasta dishes in the near future.

Their pizzas are brilliant. The best in town by a yard. But someone’s bound to rock up here soon and say they’re TOO SALTY! Lille girls who like extra bland with their banal.

I know this isn’t the “all Pizza Rocks” thread, but I just wanted to say, Xinzhuang Pizza Rock has shut down. Not surprising because I’ve been about the only person eating there since the place opened. Literally, it’s always dead in there unless there is a foreigner football match on at the park

The guy who runs the Pizza Rock near me is always complaining about how tight the margins are. It’s a tough business.

I feel like the quality of PR has gone down a lot in the last 5 or 6 years. Maybe saving money on ingredients or not training their managers and workers as much as they expand, I don’t know. But I’ve mostly stopped ordering from there as a result. That said… still much better than Pizza Hut or Domino’s.

Their prices are pretty reasonable too.
I like pizza rock pretty dependable chain , very good quality for a chain restaurant and no fucking around with the pizza. That said I don’t eat there often enough to easily tell if they cut back on the ingredients. Their salad is alright also.
Same as the above poster I haven’t eaten Dominos or Pizza Hut in years, no need to these days.

That’s a bummer. Pizza is generally quite a high margin compared to many other restaurants :frowning:

They’re also way worse than they used to be. Well, at least Pizza Hut. It was never great, but it was fun “kid pizza” in the 90s and early 00s. Tried it again a year ago (no choice, at someone’s place and they ordered it) and it was borderline inedible.

I wonder if their all you cna eat buffet exists and how their stale spaghetti holds up now :upside_down_face:

Let’s be honest, it always was stoner food. It still is. And like everywhere, they are cutting costs, cutting corners and selling goo just like all the chains. They just assemble their factory chemicals slightly less well than other vendors of similar sourcing origins do. I’ll take subway over Pizza Hut 200% of the time knowing full well subways is also complete shit.

Even the new roll out of Costco cost cut pizzas trump the shit out of Pizza Hut. Which is truly just sad :frowning:

It’s my favorite pizza in town, they have locations open on Mondays and all afternoon!

Canadian style, I would say

I think OPizza or Legends is better. Would recommend.

Closed afternoons and Mondays. That’s when I go to Pizza Rock. I’ll flag it to try, but probably won’t

I haven’t bothered with them for years, seemed like every time I went they were closed, or there was a problem with the food or service. Never had more than 2 tables at a time, I’m surprised they’re still open.

Kinda hard to make a pizza worse than most Taiwanese food, toppings aside. I’m not very picky for pizza and the Rock gets the job done. And they have Hawaiian pizza.

Andrea’s is very good, small spot though. OPizza is mostly takeout also. Posto Pizza would be my top choice all round. Pizzarock is reliably open and has lots of seating. :ok_hand:

I went once, was ok. After that every time.I thought of them they have been closed

Posto is ok for a date

Andy’s Pizza used to be far and away the best pizza in Kaohsiung. But alas, it shut 5 or more years ago. Now there’s a bunch of decent places like the ones you and I mentioned, but nothing that really stands out from the pack.*

*- although I’ve yet to try Andrea’s.

Andrea’s is really decent but he just has three tables.

IIRC it also felt like being in someone’s old basement, and if the lights were all on the whole place would be covered in a layer of dust and grease

So in other words, pretty clean by Kaohsiung eatery standards. :face_with_tongue:

Pizza Rock is practically sterile in comparison
