I’m not expecting to find a full on country bar but are there any places in Taipei that even occasionally play country music?
I’d even take a couple of country songs on a jukebox somewhere.
Only place I know of close to Taipei is Frank’s Texas BBQ in Sanzhi. Still fairly close if you have a motor vehicle. It is more of a restaurant than a bar. But they play country music non-stop and they have draft beer. I’m not a big fan of the food, but it is probably the closest thing to what you are asking for. Be sure to sit outside at one of the two tables and make sure you have a reservation. Typically, up to 1 hour min., two hour wait on weekends without reservation.
Was playing darts at a sports bar called La Playa on Ming Shen East Road Section 5 on Wednesday. Very difficult place to find in an alley on the second floor, that caters to local Taiwanese. Only reason I was there was because Wednesday is league darts night and that happened to be the venue for the evening. Next thing I know they start playing country, to my surprise. I asked the owner about it, and he said they just ike to mix it up sometimes. They played country for a good two hours! A good mix too, from newer songs like Toby Keith’s “I Love This Bar” to older ones like Brooks and Dunn’s “Neon Moon” and Alan Jackson’s “Chattahoochie.” I was dumbfounded. I’ll probably head back this weekend.
