O K

Formosa plastics is WELL known for essentially being a hitler towards our environment.

Its hard to find something positive about that group…

Were you referring to finding something positive in local media? The video seems to suggest a positive perspective held locally. That is, in Taiwan, Formosa plastics are something of a darling, the rags to riches story of its creators apparently resonating with the Taiwanese people.

Is anyone in the local media looking at Formosa Plastics? Most or all of the protest footage in the article was from overseas.

Hardly rags to riches. They were given a $1m USD loan in the 1950s. How much would that be in todays dollars.

There are loads of taiwanese that hate them. Especially most non profits, environmental groups, human rights groups etc.

Aside from being extremely rich, they are only tarnishing taiwans reputation and causing people to look down at us as a corrupt dirty country…which is somehwat well deserved.

Some examples of why most people hate them

They are also happy.to file lawsuits against their detractors in Mailiao. It’s so hard to prove cancer or other diseases are a direct result.of their pollution…The cards are stacked.
There’s a primary school almost in their refinery in Mailiao. It’s appalling. That place is hell.

For real! Its almost like they are the new tobacco, in many ways.

Researchers have been trying to prove the link between lung disease or ailments in local children, there is some evidence but they aren’t conclusively able to pin it on the refinery ,if I recall correctly they sued a professor over his paper’s claims.

And then another group of Taisi residents sued them.

All the red dots are schools.

The closest one was donated by the refinery but I believe it was abandoned due to being right beside one of the chimneys ! (Reviews in Google maps)

A rarity.

Usually courts aren’t seen as a positive light in Taiwan due to the amount of completely ridiculous rulings in Taiwan.

Ya man. Though i dont think school locations have ANYTHING to do with either the health or safety of children in mind. Nation wide…i love the school name on the kaohsiung mrt. For no other reason than its name lol. R18 brother. R18.

They provide a lot of good paying jobs in economically depressed areas whether it is backwaters in Texas, Louisiana or Yunlin County.

Of course, the bleeding heart foreign English teachers, the muesli-Unitarian crowd (who think Jesus was a cross between Timothy Leary, a Yoga teacher and Karl Marx) and beatnik anti-Capitalists don’t like the Company, but again would they be privileged to be working as expats in Taiwan were it not for the success and economic development of such pro-US companies?

Easy for such affluent foreigners to back NIMBYism in a country that is not their own.

Yunlin/Changhua/Tainan are actually thriving manufacturing centers amongst other things , they would survive without the refinery.

The staff of Formosa plastics have horrible experiences with liver and skin cancer and also thyroid issues. Often they also get some skin condition where they get lighter patches of skin.

There is a direct link between stupidity and air pollution. The higher the number on the AQI, the lower the IQ, always. There’s nothing privileged about telling a company to fuck off for destroying the planet/the air around a school.

Also, pollution is a possible link to spectrum disorders although it appears that the Lo k needs further study.

The phug you on about? Read the posts above. Many of us are capitalistic people and STILL hate these assholes…they are a great example of how NOT to lead an industry. No one is debating them being rich and providing jobs. So do cartels for F sakes…they make taiwan look bad. No question.

Formosa plastic reminds me of the bad guy from the original space jam movie. Just total greed on steroids. Taiwan’s net zero is hilarious.

They even seem brazen enough to have problems in the US.

Posting a link here for obvious reasons.
