Please help? Having trouble finding a lease that allows household registration

Hello i have been looking for a place to stay. I am using a local property agent.

He showed me 30k a month 6th floor walk up that allows household registration. Propane water heater. Has wifi included

Then another 15k a month shithole that wont allow household registration but has electricity and water included.

They both dont pass my requirements. Can someone refer a place to stay 1 year and allow household registration?

Is 10k to 30k a month budget too low? If i made it 30k to 60k a month would it be better?

I asked the agent for songshan area preferred. With wifi, blackout curtains, hot water, washer/dryer. Then fully furnished.

1- Are you sure you need household registration? Just asking, some people don’t know what it’s for

2- Use a family member’s residence

3- Just use their address. Legally they can’t prevent you and they won’t know for a while. I think they won’t know until tax time. Almost definitely will have some drama when they learn of it though.

  1. Yes. To get NWHR passport also securing the future for my kids bec they are also NWOHR
  2. No family in taiwan.
  3. I want to do things the right way.

Law has been changed so a landlord cannot prevent you changing your HHR to a rental address.

Yeh but for me I would prefer not to raz things up with my landlord so they don’t raise the rent lol.

Pick your battles lol

I think I saw here on the forum some success story where the renter himself offered to pay a slightly higher rent – acknowledging that the landlord has to pay higher taxes to do things correctly – in return for the landlord “allowing” (even though they are legally required) use of the address as HHR. So if you try to meet the landlord halfway, maybe you can find a win-win situation.

For Taipei, that’s definitely on the lower end. 30k should give you an okayish studio - anything less than 20k will mostly be shared accommodation or apartments with more or less serious issues (illegal additions, mold problems, …).

If you can afford, you should focus on newer buildings and increase your budget. 40-50k should give you a decent 1-2 bedroom apartment.

Yeh exactly. My landlord is the same and offered me to register at my apartment once I get my HHR and ID card. He was ecstatic that I became a Taiwanese and wanted to help me in whatever way possible.

But I’d much rather just register my HHR at a friends house for free and save the extra 1,000 or whatever it is a month.

I still havent found a place. I cant do viewings tomorrow bec of the typhoon.

Im with family right now but crying everynight bec they will leave soon…

I have done this multiples times (pay a bit more rent) for this. It’s BS, but it is what it is. Sometimes you want the house and rent goes up a few hundred a month maybe, I don’t mind that much.

Edit do you or a family member speak mandarin? Skipping he agent might be easier/cheaper if you have time to go around in person.

The residential lease contract is a requirement for my ARC application. I prefer a broker for this.

One of the bookshop contracts are ok for this also, as long as its signed/stamped by both parties.

I cant find a good image online but look similar to this

yeah, I was wondering about this, especially with children involved. The way it’s set up is really difficult. My partner has her registration in a New Taipei District but we all live together in a Taipei City district. We want to send our child to daycare/preschool but as it stands, she would have to go out to the New Taipei district, which would be a major pain in the ass for us to do and just not reasonable to pull off considering the logistics. This is so we can use the money offered by the government for the daycare. How do we pull this off if our landlord is not willing to allow us to use our current apartment lease for an HHR?

On another note, I personally think that HHR is a complete useless waste. It’s an absolute relic of the past and should be completely abolished.

Take your rental contract to the HHR office. Landlord cannot stop you from registering.
