Pls. help...Need a home cable,internet and phoneline :(

Hello Guys,

Me, my wife and my baby are now excited moving to our new apartment we stayed at hotel for so long and now it’s about time to get new house and want to make sure there’s a cable,internet and phoneline. Being only 1-month to Taiwan I don’t know really what/where is the first step to accomplish these. PLease help, I work the wholeday and I don’t want to leave my wife and baby dry everyday without cable and internet. Can anyone give a place or a number to call for all of these requesitions. I’ll appreciate very much and will mark you as my very good friend and hope to help you back anyhow in the future also…

For your phone line you can call Chunghwa Telecom toll free in Taipei 0800-231-199, Central Taiwan 0800-400-456, or South Taiwan 0800-711-123 and they can find somebody to speak enough English to direct you to your nearest phone company office, where you’ll pay a fee and schedule an appointment for a serviceman to come hook you up.

Chunghwa offers Internet services too, but there’s also www.fetnet.com.tw.

Get a good housing agent.You’ll probably have to pay a one month’s rental as broker fee but they would get the cable, telephone, TV, utilities done. Save U a lot of work, especially if U do not speak Chinese.

Can you get someone at work to help you out? That would be preferrable to an agent, but the people who rented you the apartment probably could do the job as well.

Be aware that many Chunghwa Telecom offices will simply refuse to supply a phone, ADSL, or mobile phone connection to a foreigner.

However, you can go to any office to sign up. The office for Xin Yi district is not anti-foreigner. The south Taipei office on Ren’ai is.

An agent should be able to confirm for you whether the house has ADSL and a phone line.

Where are you planning on living ? I have found the agents in the north (Tien Mu area) much better than the ones in town.

If you have cable television (or even a cable telly line with no cable subscription), try the Dong Sen (Cable Modem) people.

I went to their office on Zhongxiao East Road (right beside the exit from SYS Memorial Hall MRT) and got internet and telephone from them. Much nicer than Zhonghua Telecom. I showed them a Taiwan Driving Licence and signed. Four days later a guy came and connected it all.

They take a standard NT$1000 deposit which you get back at the end of one year.

Not once did I hear the any of the words ‘duibuqi’, ‘bu hao yisi’, ‘waiguoren’ or ‘baozhengren’ (guarantor). :smiley:

So how does Dongsen cabel modem compare to Zhonghua Telecom’s ADSL? Is it faster? Or does it depend on the number of users online at a given time of day?

I’ve heard it said over the years that ADSL was faster but I’ve honestly not noticed any difference.

If anything, I’ve found the Cable Modem to be faster and I can’t say I’ve noticed it speeding up or slowing down depending on the time of day. I’m a satisfied customer! :slight_smile:
