POPEYES was coming, now it's here!

Fair point I wouldn’t wait in line for it more than three people deep

Considering that there’s plenty of fried chicken places in Taiwan…

That said I hate Big Macs but yes they are good for many

But too much bread just go for the double cheese burger

The sauce makes it

Have you ever tried the “super big mac”? They been having it in Taiwan every so often. It’s a big mac with 4 patties instead of 2.

I did give it a try. Felt a bit dry with all them patties. I like the limited edition one they do which has a fried mozzarella layer. Their most recent limited edition one was a total fail. Can’t remember what it was but it was miniscule.

You must have a, uh, let’s say “unorthodox” definition of decent. McDonald’s is absolute dogshit.

I admit I eat Mac more than I should and it’s almost food is the kindest I can say

I’m now kinda f’ed because Mac is the easiest path to lunch for me on my work day
Cuz I never bring my lunch even if I actually make one

My normal choices are fish which is sometimes good mostly not and is the item most people say don’t order as nobody does here

The single cheeseburger is acceptable but it’s always way too salty

The chicken sandwhich is my fav but one time out of three it’s inedible because the chicken meat is strangely unlike chicken and I have to spit it out it’s hard to describe

The only safe choice is the mcChicken which is consistent but tastes like it was man made

And not made from real chicken

Gross right?

And o get to spend about 300nt for this with a small ice tea

300nt buys a pretty good lunch in Taiwan

Around March McDonalds did a 12 piece nugget for 66nt, but add one nt and you get a second one. Almost too good to be true. I got like 24 pieces of mcnugget for like 130nt.

It’s like the fourth or fifth time you’ve told this story…?

The man likes a bargain!

Guy

Unless you want to eat lunch between 130pm and 430pm, when McDonalds is often busy because everything else is closed (in my parts of Kaohsiung, anyways)

He has not told the story that some time later you could also get a similar deal for 2x 6 piece nugget for 66+1nt. :happy_frog:

Albeit those 12 nuggets are 0.5 NTD more expensive than half of the 24 nugget deal. :2cents:

I assumed that “12 piece nugget for 66nt, but add one nt and you get a second one” was a mistake and meant 6 nuggets for NT$66 and 12 nuggets for NT$67, and thus 24 nuggets for NT$134 to match “I got like 24 pieces of mcnugget for like 130nt” — therefore matching what you just wrote and referring to the same deal…

… but I found the anecdote so dull after hearing it so many times that it didn’t seem worth querying. :man_shrugging:

I guess I’ll wait for the movie adaptation of this riveting tale anyway. I don’t really see the attraction — I think I’d have a hard time getting through the second six nuggets without vomiting.

for the price, everything is relative. if I pay 145 NT (4.45 USD) for a big mac with medium fries and a soda, I can’t complain that much. if u want a gourmet meal, prices r different, 300 NT for a good burger (nothing fancy, just big patty, bacon, lettuce, tomato, good sauce and fries as a side).

Had way worse burgers than maccas at much higher prices, it’s not absolute dogshit. It’s consistent fast food fare. not good per se, but considered the price, ease of consumption, reliability and consistency, it’s a masterpiece of capitalism.

Very funny that I am talking about burger quality, as an Italian burgers r kids food, just meat in a bun. Not a meal tbh, more of a quick snack. Food is something else. (disclaimer, I do like me burgers, but can’t be a philosopher about it)

I always made the time to get the chicken strips meal in HK airport while Popeye’s was there… yes, I would imagine locals will consider it too dry but that is quite normal, the meat itself should be juicy

Can’t wait for the fuss to die down so I can pay a visit

I have noticed the preference for fried chicken in Taiwan seems to be literally dripping with oil. I sure hope it’s dry by that standard.

Is that really the price for a burger, coleslaw, and coke?

That’s astronomical for a fast food place - especially in such a price-sensitive environment (people here are cheap).

I stand by my prediction that it’ll be closed within a year.

It’s weird that they are selling burgers at all. It’s a fried chicken place. The price seems reasonable, though. Basically $7 for a meal?

McDonald’s sells fried chicken.

It’s a business, not a purity test.
