Portuguese style bread in Banqiao - Português Piano Café

2024-08-03T04:00:00Z

To make a long story short, I have been making Portuguese style bread, both simple and with chorizo, once a month, at a Portuguese small bistro called Português Piano Café, in Banqiao, and next Saturday will be my last time doing it in its current location. The first batch should be realy at midday.

The owner is a Portuguese musician who cooks nice portuguese food there and sometimes will play music on the piano he has on the place. The bistro usually has a nice selection of Portuguese wine, now a bit smaller since he is changing places.

The long story is, I’ve been in Taiwan for about one year and an half, before coming here, I used to bake bread with my mom for the family. When I arrived here, to join my wife, I visited this bistro and the guy challenged me to start using the oven he has there to make and sell bread.

Now, the bistro will be changing from its original location, due to city renovations, and this next saturday will be the last time I bake there.

So, if you want to try some Portuguese bread and/or wine, you can reach out and make an order. I will be happy to add to the batch or batches I’ll be baking next Saturday.

Some months ago, I posted here about Português Piano Café and the bread I was making there. By then the bistro was changing its phhysical location and I was not sure when it would be back.

Well, it is back now and taking reservations. Sadly, the bread is still on hold, as we are still looking into a solution for a new small to medium oven to bake bread and some traditional Portuguese pastries. If you have any idea about where to find such a thing, I would love to hear from you.

The new location is here:

You can even check out the Christmas event here: https://www.facebook.com/events/1086836695913504/

Bear in mind that this is a one man operation, so if you want to have food there, it’s always better to book in advance and make sure it will be possible. But, if you just want to have a drink and enjoy the vibes and music, the place can usually acomodate on short notice.

Do you ever make sweet bread? My grandmother used to make it at Easter (I think.)

Not here in Taiwan, but with my mom in Portugal I used to make different kinds of sweter stuff, like Pão-de-Ló or Pão de Leite.
