No, I’m not posting trouble, I’m having trouble posting. Whenever I try to submit a post or preview it prior to submitting, I get two error messages, either “no post mode specified” or “invalid_session”, seemingly arbitrarily, both not from my system but from forumosa. I think (not sure though) that this has either started after moving and we got our new ADSL connection or it started, but has definitely deteriorated considerably, since my wife registered with forumosaas well and we’re alternating our respective log-ins … is that possible? What could be the problem and what can we do about it? We’re running Win XP and are using MS Explorer. But a trial with Netscape has brought no improvement …
Thanks for any help, Xpet.
I’m having trouble with everything at the moment
- posting, bringing up posts since last visits, opening threads etc. I get a lot of ‘server not found’ errors as well as the ones Xpet mentioned. Just me/my server? Or is the Forumosa server overloaded? Never used to happen, just recently.
Are you on Hinet, Xpet? (Hey, rhymes…) :help: I also have ADSL, Windows XP and IE if any of that proves significant.
I’m having trouble too - and with posting also
After logging in:
Every time I want to post a reply - login page appears.
Every time I want to send a PM - login page appears.
After writing my reply/PM - login page or invalid session appears.
It isn’t a problem if I just can log in again, but when I log in it returns to the forum index, not the thread I want to reply to or my inbox where I want to PM from.
I end up shutting down IE and restarting and going where I want to go and re-doing it. Not that it is a big deal, but it is an inconvenience.
I am running a dual firewall (WinXP and PC-Cillin) with cookies turned off so that might be it. However, I would prefer to leave these running as they are. Any ideas?
Daasgirl, it might be your ISP. The Internet cafe where I was reading for a while had constant problems; their ISP was simply overloaded and was timing out. I’m not having any problems from this one.
Electronisk, I’m pretty sure the lack of cookies is doing you in. If you really hate cookies, try switching to Netscape v7 and use its cookie control features to reject everyplace’s except Forumosa’s.
XPet, no idea, sorry.
You definately want cookies on Forumusa, and “Automatically log me in” (unless you’re on a public computer)
As for invalid session, for some reason forumosa thinked you logged out, so press the back button to go back to your post, press refresh, which forces it to log you back in, and try again until it works.

Yep, all of the above too, sometimes … I found out yesterday evening that it seems to be a time-thing. If I copy my post before I submit it and it doesn’t work after a few attempts, then go back to the original message, click reply, paste my post and submit it right away it works. This is of course a bit ma fan! Seems to be this timing-out thing mentioned.
Sorry, I can’t rhyme back, but yes, I am. Everything else works like a charm though …
As we use two log-ins from the same machine it doesn’t make much sense … we’ll try it anyway, then sign out and sign-in again with the other one’s log plus “automatic” clicked everytime we take turns … we’ll see how it goes. Thanks, Xpet.
I often have trouble with forumosa at home. After writing a long post and trying to submit it will say “invalid session” and I’ll go back and my draft post is gone, which is infuriating if I spent a long time writing it. So now I usually use the edit function on my computer to save my post before submitting, just in case.
But in the office I have not encountered any difficulties. So, I assumed it was either becuase I use Hinet (CHT bastards :bluemad: ) at home and not in the office or because my laptop at home is inferior to my desktop in the office.
In fact, I was going to start this same thread a few days ago, at home, but it kept logging out and invalid sessioning on me so I decided it wasn’t worth the trouble.

That was my exerience as well so far, but now it’s also starting in the office, which is, of course, a different laptop … not as bad (yet?), but the same symptoms. ![]()
What’s at the root of this problem, can forumosa do something? If so many people are affected it won’t be long before people won’t post anymore because it’s becoming too difficult … ??
I am having the exact same problems. It is becoming a real pain in the arse.
I have no problems posting from work or home. Hmmm.
Tech-heads, any idea why this is happening?
workaround: I actually compose my posts on word-pad now, copy
them onto the clip-board and only then click on “post reply”, paste my
prose into the reply-box, hit “submit” and off they go,
has worked like a charm so far …
Xpet.

The errors I got at the internet cafe (mostly in Chinese, but only mostly) appeared to have something to do with DNS timing out.
I would suggest looking at the posters’ IP addresses and their ISP(s) to see if it is a problem with their ISP(s) being blocked or hosed.
One reason I say that is because my soon-to-be-ex-ISP in Seattle was rejecting Hinet’s DNS inquiries the other day; I had to play games to be able to connect and get my email there.
Another is that while I had constant trouble at the internet cafe, I am having none from this place.
MT’s issue sounds like a proxy server issue with phpBB. phpBB uses the IP address (at time of login) plus a session hash key, to validate that you’re really you.
If your IP address changes between login and submit-post time, phpBB will reject it. AOL has problems with this because of the way they handle all of their traffic; MT’s ISP may be playing similar proxy games. Or if he has dynamic IP, the company may be changing his IP address pretty fast (most of the so-called “dynamic” IP lines I’ve seen issue an address for months at a time; it’s more of a “just in case we ever fill up our address space” strategy).
