Power of Attorney for Relative

HI Folks!

I have a Power of Attorney from my mom’s lawyer in the USA. It grants me the authority to basically do anyhing regarding her affairs. She has recently moved to Taiwan where I will process her residency. She is a US citizen as am I.

Is there a way thay a POA from the USA can have legal weight here in Taiwan. Has anyone had any experience with this? If so, what needs to be done to make sure that this is enforceable in Taiwan?

Thank you.

Dan

You can get a power of attorney done at a local notary in Taiwan

Even if you could use another country’s power of attorney in Taiwan, most places wouldn’t accept it and you have to go through translation + notarization first, probably through the Taipei economic office in your home country.

I’ll try but I don’t think she is competent to sign one at this point. She has better days than others though. And she can still sign her name.

You may need go to court and get a Dr to sign off on it, the US one will also help your case if you get it notarised. Contact the family court first yourself and ask or get a lawyer.
