Prediction for ROC (taiwan) in 2008

ROC constitution will remain the same.
DPP will be an opposition party, perhaps for a very long time.
Frank Hsieh will team up with Su for the election.
KMT Superstar Ma will crush them both by a landslide.
ROC and PROC leaders will hold a first ever Chinese summit aim at peace and prosperity.
ROC and PROC will sign a “modus vivendi” to last 50 yrs.
Superstar Ma will become a hit in Hong Kong.
Mainland Chinese will start to idolize the Superstar.

good year for the KMT and ROC.

Hopefully he will move there.

His gung fu is not strong. He must team with Jackie Chan.

Or do a Whisbih commercial.

2007 is going to be The Year of 2/28 Promotion Promotion Promotion KMT=Bad People Promotion, and the KMT will not be able to deal with all the resulting negative publicity. The pan-greens will give their blessing to opening up cross-strait relations and the economy will improve enough by 2008 that the pan-blues won’t be able to harp on How Bad the Economy Is. Ma has been seen as the presidential candidate for so long that the cumulative preemptive attacks on him will take their toll. Victory by Ma or any other pan-blue candidate in 2008 (like Wang Jin-pyng) is far from certain. However, both Su and Hsieh are more moderate than Chen and both are more likely to be able to deal with China.
China claims Taiwan as its own even though the People’s Republic of China has never controlled the island.

Even Chinese Communist Party Chairman Mao Zedong, in his interview with Edgar Snow on July 16, 1936, made very clear that Taiwan should be independent.

Historically, Taiwan belonged to China only during the short period between 1945 and 1949, when the Chinese Nationalists occupied the island and killed some 20,000 Taiwanese who demonstrated for democracy. The Ching Dynasty, which ruled parts of Taiwan from 1683 to 1895 was Manchu, not Chinese. At that time, China, too, was a Manchu colony.

chen declares independence before he goes, just to make life tricky for ma after his election win.

china waits until the foreign media have left after the olympics (quickly followed by the mass execution of most of the coaches and team officials for losing face by allowing their athletes’ drug use to be detected) and then invades taiwan during the mid autumn festival

nobody in taiwan notices except the columnists for the taipei times and the liberty daily, who end up seeing the inside of a blindfold and suffering acute lead poisoning (25 grams delivered intracranially).

the price of cross strait airfares unexpectedly increases rather than falls, causing consternation among the business community, although they can now fly direct to beijing.

nicaragua and chad declare they were in support of china all along, they just wanted to keep the name of taiwan alive to get chen to puthis foot in it somehow… and there never was any private money changing hands, or sex deals, honest.

pineapples and bananas remain locked out of the chinese mainland market due to price and health concerns, and the bottom falls out of the hairy crab market.

the absence of a credible WHO monitoring scheme leads to an outbreak of a new virus in Taiwanese farm birds, first seen in late 2006 in indonesia, which escapes the island and causes the death of 350 million Chinese farm workers on the mainland and spreading through asia before quarantine measures such as mass burning of cities, towns and villages in the south are imposed.

no-one in urban china hears about it.

simple really.

I would say Su is light green. Hsieh is moderately light green. Yu is dark green (he won’t win the nomination). Anette is dark green, but she wears a skirt. :joker:

Su + Hsieh will be quite formidable. Their policies will be quite similar to that of Ma and palatable to mainland (much to the chagrin of the dark Greenies). Ma will need to pick his running mate carefully.

2-28 is going to be a big problem for the KMT. I think that’s why the recently released that mockumentary claiming it was all a misunderstanding…to get a head start on the upcoming negative publicity.

Poor Ma. It must suck to have to carry water for a political party that was so murderous and corrupt.

The bad stuff on Ma hasn’t even come out yet, but the public stuff is already pretty harsh, starting with the opposition to him from within his own party. I’m wondering if the Party Machine will yet be able to engineer his downfall.

Also, WTF did he pick Wu Den-yi as the KMT sec-gen? Was he forced to? What’s going on?

Good. Good. No war, no missile, no hatred, everybody is green blue, blue green.
China wins, Taiwan wins. Everybody wins. What’s there to complain?

what about the foreigners? Any prediction on what will happen to them?

I predict that, at least once but probably eight or nine times, I will get some sort of diarrhea from eating “bow zi” from off a cart being pushed around by a guy with no shirt.

I try to stay away from the Type 8 (WMD)
