I’ve found an apartment, I’m due to hand over all the money on Monday but the principal has still not stamped the Certificate of Employment. I feel like I don’t actually have the job and I am in a vulnerable position. Is this normal? Has anyone experienced this?
In my experience, Taiwan has a lot of this.
Had this happen to a teacher in the FET program. I was told the school was wanting another teacher but they were having trouble getting the new teacher on loaded (new teacher was a Filipino having issues certifying his documents at teco)
Basically it sounds like they trying to replace you, but they don’t have the new teacher lined up yet.
Have you spoken to the principal directly yet? Let others at the school know that you need the stamp or you’re going to sign elsewhere. Never put all your eggs in one basic here. Never trust a local when they say, “Don’t worry, it will all be taken care of.” As a foreigner, you’re expendable and if you lose lots of money in the process, then that’s your problem. Of course you also need to take into consideration that stupidity, incompetence, and ignorance may also be playing a major role here as well. Solution: you don’t stop looking for a job until all your ducks are in line and you always make sure that they know you’re considering another position elsewhere. Good luck!
