Process for Officially Adopting a Chinese Name

Hello,

I’m a Gold Card holder who recently moved to Taipei.

While I am living here, I am wanting to have a Chinese name. I have already consulted with some locals around the name to ensure it is appropriate.

I’m wondering what the process is to have it be “official” and get it on my Gold ARC.

With some research I found that I should go to the Household Registration Office and fill out a Declaration Form.

Is this correct (I wasn’t sure if this was just for marriages)?

I’m guessing I just go there fill out the form and then update my Gold Card info through the online portal (and then pick up my new card after if it is approved).

Just want to check if I am understanding the process, thanks very much in advance.

Go to immi centre and write it on the application form to change details. Done.

That’s why I’m wondering if there is a certain form I need to submit, or I just self assert that I have selected a name for myself.

I’ll try to submit the update through the portal and see if they ask for anything else. Maybe it’s just that simple.

Just go to the immigration centre to change your name.

@StandardLoop were you successful at adding a Chinese name? And could you retain your original foreign name as well, on your ID (i.e. have both a foreign name and a Chinese name)?

As a foreigner you will never “loose” your name, the Chinese name you give to yourself will be apposed next to yours and that’s it on the ARC.

NHI card and driving licence if requested (or updated) after the Chinese name addition by default should show the Chinese name only unless you opt out and request the English name only to appear.

Yes, I just updated mine through the gold card portal. I also have mine on my NHI card.

Both my Gold Card and NHI have my Chinese and English name.
