Yes, still happens in Taiwan. But for my wife’s relatives the women in the family are usually the ones pushed to cry and even get on their knees and crawl. My wife has not done that but her sister has. In the past alot of pressure to cry and wail loudly. The older folks will ask the younger generation to do this but (in my wife’s family) they are less willing to do so.

In the 1990s, we proposed a new business: the Western Women’s Wailing Corps, with our tagline as “For the Gangster who had Everything”. There were visa issues in those days though. Lol
