Piercers, I’m not sure if that’s what you call them… people who do body piercings.
I want to get a lip piercing, but when I went to the shop where I got my ears pierced, they weren’t aware of the possible problems with tooth chipping and gum damage if placed in a bad position. Is there some kind of certification for this and where can I find someone who has it?
My advice? Dont get a body mod like that here in Taiwan. There MAY be ONE person somewhere that is a good piercer, but I certainly havent heard of anyone, and most of what I have seen made my skin crawl.
If you can, just wait until you get back to your home country to a place that will do it with a single use needle, titanium jewelry, etc etc. You cant mess around with piercings. Good luck!

I don’t know his name, but there’s a guy in Ximending that did my 13 piercings (some of them removed now, but for personal choice and nothing more) and he’s amazing. I got painful places pierced without feeling nothing but a pinch, and I never really had any major complication.
I joined Forumosa specifically to ask about piercings, but I got impatient in the 24 hours it took to be approved and just went to Ximen and got it done a few minutes ago : ) Mine was a nose piercing which is maybe less risky than a lip piercing? Anyways, my experience:
I went to a shop in an alley off the pedestrian area in Ximen called Hsiu Hsiu Shop (秀秀的店), Xi’ning south road #129 store 7.10 (西寧南路129號第7.10櫃). The shop girl and the laoban who actually pierced me were nice but yeah it was nothing fancy. Just a diamond chip on a (100%, they said…) silver stud taken from a box, swirled in some alcohol, and poked through my nose with gloved hands. Swabbed with alcohol before and after, sent me home with a bottle of alcohol and instructions to wash my face. Seems hygienic to me; if it gets infected it’s probably my fault.
They gave me a card with contact info, their email is hsiu2.shop @ msa.hinet.net and their phone is 23705676 and 23318269. If you have questions about piercing in Taipei they might be a good place to start.
Thanks for the advice. I guess I will hold off on the lip piercing for now.
mjtaiwan, do you know where in Ximending I might be able to find this guy?
Basically is in the alley behind the World Gym. Both of the piercing places there are from the same owner, and the guy has a shaved head. I think it’s the same place the above poster said (I don’t remember the name and don’t have a card), but I most likely will be going to get my industrial re-pierced in the next two weeks, so if you want I can grab a card for you and send you the info.
Thanks, WSR. I will check it out next time I’m in Ximen. And mjtaiwan, that’d be very helpful! I’ve actually been to one of the places behind World Gym, if I remember correctly it’s a black shop but a lady with long straight hair did my piercings, not sure if it’s the same one.
I haven’t been there yet, but no. This one is a dude who shaves his head. He’s usually in the second piercing store you’ll see, across from the tattoo place and a little shop of random stuff. He really is amazing, I have no complains.
I will see when I have time to go and I’ll pick up the info!

I feel like I’m getting a staph infection only from reading this.
Please people, don’t get piercings or tattoos from any of the shops in this alley!
A little dirt is not the problem here but cross-contamination can cause series issues. I’m talking about staph, hepatitis, hiv…
mjtaiwan, I’m happy to hear that you’ve had a good experience with one of those shops and haven’t had any problems. Still that doesn’t mean it’s safe to get pierced there.
Unfortunately I don’t know of recommendable piercing studios in Taiwan. If anybody could direct me to a good studio with professionals that have experience in advanced piercing procedures I would be more than happy. I’m located in Taipei but willing to travel.
Those piercing needles cost like 350NT$. If they recycle and use them like 10 times or even more, do your math of what your chances are that they don’t recycle the needles here in Taiwan and anywhere else for that matter.
All my friends that had their ears pierced by a “professional” had some kind of infection afterwards. I used a sewing needle and a cigarette lighter for that and had not problem at all.
I disagree.
The bald (shaved head?) dude in (秀秀的店) did all my piercings, including a genital piercing. I never had a problem, and they use everything new. They open things in front of you, and the laoban (the bald dude) is absolutely amazing. I just got my nose redone, and it didn’t even take a day to heal. I don’t recommend the shop, I recommend that particular piercer. He is truly amazing. I’ve had 14 piercings done by him, and some of them redone, and I never had a problem.
I took a lot of people that wanted to get piercings to that same store (and if the laoban wasn’t there, I make sure they called him and asked for him). None of them had any problems while getting piercings, or after.
As far as HIV. I get tested every 6 months just because I am OCD about any kind of STD. I’ve had piercings done in that place (including my genital piercing with I got done, took it off out of being bored about it, and then missed it to much and got it redone) and got checked a year after, and completely clean. As far as them reusing needles… well, you have to be stupid if you don’t pay attention when they open a new needle. They always do, opening a new sealed needle every time (or sterilizing the jewelry if they’re just going to use that to pierce) and they have always tossed the needles away in the 25+ times I’ve been to that shop.
The 秀秀的店 sells all kind of jewelry and you can decide which one you get; from silver, to stainless steel, to silver plated in white gold. In fact, you can even take your own jewelry piece and ask to be pierced with that, and they will just charge you a small piercing fee.
I have to get an upper ear piercing redone (as I accidentally took it off and it is a ring, so I cannot put it myself), and I will no doubt go back to that place.
i too am looking for a legit/professional piercer that uses sterile equipment with NEW needles. Ive visited quite a few tattoo spots and i was disgusted at how they do business. The storefront looked exquisite BUT they had seats next to eachother (literally 2 ft apart) with no privacy or wall between the seats and none of their equipment looked clean at all. for all i know they couldve repackaged needles to save money. if shops are willing to do that with tattoos, im more than positive they wont care at all about piercings. So far ive been looking around for internally threaded barbells and everyone that ive asked said they had no idea what i was talking about. literally NO ONE, not even piercers know what they are. i guess what im trying to get to is, is there a legitimate shop that does more than simple ear pierces with clean new stuff/trained professional (not someone who seems nice and got lucky without contracting an infection)/and knows how to pierce correctly regardless of price?
Hey everyone! I was just wondering where in Taipei I can get my belly pierced? I’ve heard that Taiwan is not the best place to get pierced due most piercers not having license. If so, I would just go back to the states to do it. However, if anyone can vouch for for a licensed piercer around here, please let me know! Thank you. ^^
I checked out the pictures of the piercings and they do look ok to me (I’m not a professional though). My friend says there’s a girl piercing at the shop (don’t know if she’s the only one or if there are more, I’ll have to ask him again) that did several piercings on him and some of his friends (face, nipples, genitals) and they all turned out great. Plus the girl did the hooks for a suspension show my friend did several weeks ago so I figure she knows her trade.
Haven’t talked to her in person yet but will do so next week (and will probably get pierced by her next week if she can do what I want and the studio looks ok to me). So up until now it’s all hearsay but I hope I’ll be able to give some first hand experience by the end of next week.
