Public elementary school recommendations

Currently living in Taipei and I’m aware of different options for schooling here that most foreigners/mixed children go. But we are looking to move out of the city and I’m looking for recommendations on where to send our children to elementary school. One parent is Taiwanese and one parent is a foreigner and we wish to send them to a public elementary school. Ideally would be a school that is more relaxed/non traditional/experimental or just somewhere that other foreign or mixed children have gone to and is recommended. Very open to locations within Hsinchu, Taoyuan, New Taipei City. Even potentially Yilan.

I keep debating whether it would be important to find a school that has experience with other foreign or mixed children, just so that my children aren’t the only ones that aren’t fully Taiwanese. I worry about bullying.

Does anyone have names of schools that they recommend or that I should look more into? Again, not looking for private school, only public elementary.

Your kids are fully taiwanese even if one parent is a foreigner. My son went to local elementary schools in Taichung and Alishan.

He looked quite Asian though and that helped.

My kids attend a local public elementary in New Taipei. Just the standard issue - closest to your house - public elementary. There’s like a couple of thousand students or something in the school and mine are the only kids with a non asian parent. I was expecting or assuming that they would encounter some experience where they were treated differently for being ‘foreign’ at some point. However I am super glad to be able to report that it has never happened. They are just treated the same as everyone else by the teachers and the other kids.

I think living right by the school is good as the odds are that your neighbours kids go there too and they can play there in the evening / weekends if they want, and they wind up bumping into their friends then etc.
