Put on your black (mascara optional)

Go ahead. You know you want to. A thread about music that frightened your parents. :sunglasses:

Direct links to online .mp3 files, just click and listen. Sorry about the ugly links. Also, there are two that you will have to copy and paste into a new tab. phpBB doesn’t seem to like an apostrophe in a link.

Man, I know it sure doesn’t all call for wearing black, but that blankforever index page – wow, what a stroll down memory lane. Agnostic Front, Bad Brains, Black Flag, Chaos UK, Exploited, Fugazi, GBH (God I can’t even think how many times I saw those guys), GI, Husker Du, Killing Joke, Minutemen, Negative Approach, Social Distortion, Sonic Youth, Subhumans, Void (!)…. Oh and some Kiss, Hendrix, Floyd, Stones, Who, and Yes. And Ramones and Sex Pistols and PIL. And the Cult and the Gun Club. And a Velvet Underground song. Holy shit.

But back on the somber side, sorry I don’t have any songs to contribute. Not here anyway. But lest we forget the aroma of clove cigarettes wafting through the good Doktor’s smoke, how about some Sisters pics and lyrics.
And yes I believe in what we had
But words got in the way
And only yesterday
As I was leaving
Lord knows I’ve tried to say
But I’ve heard a million conversations
Going where they’ve been before
Seen the way that careful lingers
Undecided at the door

And all I know for sure
All I know for real
Is knowing doesn’t mean so much
When placed against the feeling
The heat inside
When bodies meet
When fingers touch

All my words are secondhand
And useless in the face of this
Rationale and rhyme and reason
Pale beside a single kiss
And I’ve heard so many things
I fail to understand at all
I’d settle anytime for unknown footsteps
In the hall outside

Because the world is cruel
And promises are broken
Don’t try to tell me anything
Don’t try to tell me you’ll be true to me
You know the real truth is never spoken

And I know the world is cold
But if you hold on tight to what you find
You might not mind too much
Though even this must pass away and
Memories may last for years
But names are just for souvenirs
Some kind of angel
Let me look into your eyes

Don’t give me whys and wherefores
Reason or surprise
I don’t care for words that don’t belong
And I don’t care what you’re called
Tell me later if at all
I can wait a long long time
Before I hear another love song

Come here I think you’re beautiful
My door is open wide
Some kind of angel come inside
Come here I think you’re beautiful
I think you’re beautiful, beautiful
Some kind of angel come inside
Some kind of stranger come inside
And by the way, on their homepage, they say, “We are a rock’n’roll band. And a pop band. And an industrial groove machine.”
I still think of them as Gothic.

Or we could just download any old music we want. :idunno:

We have the technology.

Provided we have bands and/or songs in mind. I’d completely forgotten about several of the bands on that page…

Yes. Forgotten. No better band than one that ya forgot about.

I found a bunch of Sisters of Mercy on YouTube, a fair bit of it live and spanning the 80s through last year. Just in time for some deep dark brooding on a late Saturday night. Black clothing optional.

Emma (cover of the depressing Hot Chocolate song)
Alice
Amphetamine Logic
1959
Adrenochrome
Valentine
Body Electric
Temple of Love
Body and Soul
Fix
First And Last And Always
Possession

More lyrics than you can shake a stick at:

And I actually found a few Nephilim vids – but nothing recent (it was too much to hope for something from this year’s Mourning Sun release, but I hear they’re going back on tour again soon)
Sumerland
Blue Water
Last Exit for the Lost

I just recently discovered Lords of Acid, and I think the music is very cool. But, I can’t say I really like the lyrics…some of it is just really lame. Do any of you know where I can get the sound of Lords, but from a more serious band? Some LofA-sounding band.
