Queensland's penguins are no longer fairies

A couple of years old, but still hilarious.
PHILLIP Island’s iconic fairy penguins have been renamed “little penguins” in Queensland to avoid offending the gay community.

In an act of political correctness gone overboard, Sea World theme park operators on the Gold Coast changed the name of their star attraction to avoid being “offensive”.

Rebecca Smith, spokeswoman for Sea World, confirmed: "We didn’t want to upset the gay community.

"We didn’t have any complaints about the name of the penguins, but someone thought it could be seen as offensive so we decided to change it to little penguin instead.

The name is more politically correct. We’re not treating it as a big issue.”
Where’s the offense in “fairy penguin”? at least no one called them faggot penguins (referring to the fact that they look a bit like a bunch of wood). Now that might have been offensive. Perhaps even homosexual penguins, or Penguin friends of Dorothy would be too, but not ‘fairy penguins’. What would Enid Blyton think?

Anyway, why bother renaming them in Queensland, when there are so few gay people living there? At least Sydney is proud of its gay penguin communities (there are two colonies in Sydney Harbour, and a couple just outside the heads, including one near Fairy Bower.

 PC stupidity at its worst.

Actually, I think it’s called “Little Bower” now.

If I happened to a mincing poof I’d be OUTRAGED that they named a bloody fish-eating flightless bird after me, is all I can say.

they are referred to as Fairy Penguins because of their tiny size.
those poor little buggers…
