Is there a list of what expressways and tunnels Yellow plate can ride on? I’ve seen tons with versions of the sign below but without the >550CC portion. Does that mean any yellow plate can use the road?

I think that they just didn’t update those traffic signs, that’s all. I think I’ve seen yellow plates in Expressways, no matter what the sign says.
The changed the law from only >550cc allowed on expressways to >250cc, but did a crappy job changing the signs. Basically if you see the blue sign with the odd looking 80’s motorcycle silhouette, you’re good to go with anything yellow plate or above. Some expressways are not open to any 2 wheeled vehicles though, so no sign = no go. There’s (probably empty) talk about opening the freeways to >550cc bikes, but there are currently no roads or expressways limited to red plates only.
I would say that it’s more like all the expressways are open to “big” motorcycles, but highways aren’t; you are allowed to take these expressways but you will find some diversions that are explicitly indicated to be NOT for motorcycles.

I think you mean ‘Freeways’ … ‘highways’ in Taiwan are normal roads … like the east-west cross highway …
That’s why when buying a big motorcycle, buy one over 550cc … what use is it to have a yellow plate and you can’t go on the ‘freeway’ … red plate is the way to go in the future.
In most European countries you can go on any freeway with a motorcycle over 125cc … actually when you can go the minimum speed for freeways (70 km/h I think) you can go from over 75cc … in Belgium over 50cc because over 50cc you need a big motorcycle license plate and insurance and drivers license … but with the new European licenses they added a few licenses (A, A1, A2) over a certain HP (kW) it’s the vehicles weigth to power ratio, not cc.
I’ve seen those signs where the ≥550 has been patched over (looks like just a blue sticker). I think they started doing this since they passed the law to allow big bikes (red plates) on the freeways. Which I’ve seen (and done
), but have also heard that local provinces are still not accepting the law change. Seems to be a “grey” area. How grey? Charcoal…like many laws/rules in Taiwan. :roflmao:
Provinces? In Taiwan? I thought they were counties. It’s as saying ‘local rulers’ … or ‘warlords’.

Yeah, you’re right.
