I’m currently editing the transcripts (tape scripts) for an EFL listening book. Where there are multiple comments such as (pause) (sound of telephone ringing), is it peferable to have the comments on one line or separate ones, or even to join them?

I couldn’t find anything in the CMS or any examples in other books.

I would say have the comments on their own lines. When you’re recording a script, you want everything to be very clear. That way there will be no confusion. Good luck.
