I really frustrated with this ID.me verification process(I need it for access to SS site)
I uploaded (and it was accepted) photos of my US passport and SSN
But so much trouble for uploading and verifying third document which need to be also translated to prove me living in Taiwan. Gheez..
I tried my Bank statement, APRC, driver license.
I uploaded originally scanned document. Not good.
I uploaded translated copy of documents using Google Image translator. Not good.
I uploaded side by side translated and original copies. Not good either.
Does anybody succeeded with getting ID.me approval?
I used my ARC card which has my address in Chinese and showed the agent the Google Translation of the address.
Thank you.
I tried. I submit scan of my APRC, not accepted, than translated via Google translated version of my APRC, not accepted. Than original and translated version side by side. No go either. I will now translate using official translation service in Taipei (asking 600nt for translation) and will try again ![]()
Did you speak with an agent? I just pointed my phone’s camera to the Google translate web page and she was satisfied. Maybe they are getting stricter now.
For anyone else running into this, it seems to be highly dependent on the agent. I.e. if at first you don’t succeed try again the next day or something. The catch being that each agent will leave notes in the file, so if you’ve gone through six agents who were dicks you may have a problem!
However, there is also Login.gov and the two services do not talk to each other so you could start over there if necessary.
I actually have both for reasons not relevant here, but my original sign-up experience was that while Login.gov was slower to process everything it was also easier to work with overall. ID.me took me several tries as well even without the complication of a Taiwanese address.
The Login.gov system itself seems more stable as well. I’ve had both for many years now and where ID.me sometimes flat out isn’t working at all, Login.gov has never failed to authenticate. Updating info in both has also always been easier with Login.gov as well.
(I’ll try and remember to report back here how easy/difficult it is to update both to a Taiwan address later this year.
