So I have a few questions regarding moving to Taiwan, specially when it comes to ARP duration.
So I’m planning to marrying really soon and eventually move to Taiwan with my Taiwanese spouse, my question being can I stay in Taiwan and keep renewing my ARP indefinitely so i can keep living indefinitely?
Since we wanna make a life together.
I’ve tried looking for an answer to this question but never really could find it.
It is ARC - Alien Resident Certificate.
Marriage based ARC’s can be renewed indefinitely as long as you don’t get divorced.
Spouses of Taiwanese have open working rights.
Can apply for permanent residence (APRC) after certain amount of years living in Taiwan.
I’d add that the #1 quality of life requirement is being fluent in Chinese. If you aren’t fluent for reading, writing (especially ㄅㄆㄇㄈ in this modern age of smartphones), and speaking then any time you’re not with your Taiwanese spouse you’re going to be struggling.
I’ve seen this with an older couple where the Taiwanese wife had a stroke and the 60+ year old foreigner is now struggling big-time to learn Chinese late in life and without the help of his spouse who has serious mobility and language difficulty thanks to the stroke.
Honestly, if you aren’t planning to learn the language fluently, you can’t stay here long term and actually enjoy it. Don’t count on your spouse to be with you everywhere or be around forever. Even if they’re younger than you and seem to be totally healthy, that’s still no guarantee.
