I think it’s possible to get an extension to the ARC after a work permit has been canceled. If that happened, how would it affect someone planning to apply for an APRC?

I don’t know firsthand, and I can’t guarantee what anyone else says, but I found this:

Ill be applying for it in about 2 weeks.
I think they said a photo, a letter explaining why you want the extention, (travel for example) copy of passport, give them the old ARC, and I think there was something else which I forget.

A week or so later they give you a new arc valid for 6 months, with no purpose written on it.

The nice thing is that it does not interrupt your PARC eligibility

Second issue, if a worker changed from working in an education job, where the work permit is issued by the Department of Education, to one in corporate management or other white-collar work, would that affect the 5 year wait period?

If the purpose of your visa changes, i.e. work to marriage, I’m afraid the clock resets to zero.

holy shit, the purpose of mine changed this year from one category of work to another category of work. I hope this doesnt derail my ability to apply for ARC andor citizenship. i thought it was just continous legal residence…

If you just switched companies, and you weren’t on another type of visa in between (i.e. non-work visa), you should be fine.
