Guy
They are a very large increase in one go.
They probably should have had smaller increases over the years
Instead of one go
Maybe one percent per year over the last 20 some years
Although to answer my own post
TRA raising its rates yearly could give an impression of cost of living raising annually
Which it does but the govt doesn’t want to remind people because then it can lead to greater inflation
TRA being govt owned although supposedly privatizing?
So keeping prices fixed leads to perception
of price stability in society
Then you sock them in one go
Watch prices of everything start to go up at least a bit
But then as a counter to my own counter people know cost of living raises yearly so maybe a one percent per annum raise can become a general guide t how much prices should raise ?
On the Eastern Trunk Line, two additional Tze-Chiang Express trains would begin operating following the reconstruction of Siaocingshui Bridge (小清水溪橋) between Heren (和仁) and Chongde (崇德) stations in Hualien County, the company said.
The bridge was rebuilt after one of the two tracks was destroyed by Typhoon Gaemi in August last year. With dual-track operations resumed in December last year, travel times between Taipei and Hualien have been significantly reduced, it said.
TRC going to start offering full refunds on tickets for trains that are delayed by 10 minutes or more if you decide not to board said train. Policy change starts June 23rd.
Also if a train breakdown or is cancelled you can also get a full refund.
People in Germany probably pay extra when the delay is just 10 minutes or half an hour or the train comes at all. ![]()
Go, Taiwan!
Did they contract Mussolini to run the trains ![]()
Thanks for the detailed insights! I recently had the opportunity to ride the Taroko Express from Taipei to Hualien. The tilting mechanism made the journey smoother through the curves, and the scenic views along the east coast were breathtaking. It’s impressive how Taiwan Railways continues to modernize while preserving such unique travel experiences.
One conductor was beaten on a platform at Sanyi (三義) Station in Miaoli County by a drunk passenger, while another was slapped in the face by a passenger on a train traveling through Hualien County.

Later yesterday evening, a passenger boarded a TRC train at Shulin (樹林) Station in New Taipei City with a box cutter before being apprehended by police.
Noo…, don’t go the European way!
Here’s local news report for one of the incidents.
Hopefully they come down hard on this shit.
We already had the major incident where a guy “forgot to take his medication” and lost it and killed a police officer on a train.
In the bay area attack on a bus driver or train operator or the such carries a five year jail sentence in a federal prison. WE have very few attacks on bus or train drivers.
what happened to that guy he deserves the death penalty.
EDIT: Ruling was overruled and later changed to a 17yr. sentence.
He’s already out and back in the public.
A passenger who fatally stabbed a railway police officer in Chiayi City last July was ruled innocent of murder on the grounds of diminished responsibility on Thursday, but was ordered to be detained in a secure facility, where he must undergo mental health treatment for five years.
i dont think that was the right thing to do. The article mentioned that he had two knives on him. Which normal person walks around with two knives. Not taking your meds that keep you sane doesnt excuse you when you then commit a crime. My friend Joe is in jail in mexico for setting his room on fire after an argument with his landlord. He is not going to get out without his family paying a hefty sum it seems. This is much worse. killing a person and a police officer. He wouldnt be out and about any time soon in the USA. Neither should he be set free in Taiwan without a very lengthy sentence where he can be taking meds by force if needed for a long time to see if he can rehab back to society.
Apologies, found a later article. It’s been a while so I forgot about it. A later court ruling overruled the previous sentence and he was given 17yrs.
Medical reports from experts ruled that if Cheng was released into society without a therapeutic program, there was a high likelihood that he could lose control over his actions again.
Another incident of TRC staff being assaulted. Train staff woke up a drunk man who fell asleep on the train platform. The drunk guy got mad and then decided to attack the train staff. It’s kind of sad seeing so many people on the platform and no one knocking the drunk guys teeth in as he continues to assault staff…
2nd half of the news clip isn’t related to TRC stuff. A drunk guy cutting in line to get on a bus and causing a scene.
In other news, a death at one of the railway stations today as a person walks off the edge of the platform as a ZiQiang 3000 is passing through NanShi station in Miaoli. Looks like suicide to me.
Given taiwan law, if you hit somehow like you suggested, he will sue your ass and you will go to jail.
