Re-using or recycling of building materials

Hi all

In the spirit of re-use/recycling of ‘things’ and sustainability, I am wondering if there are places in Taipei or New Taipei City that sell materials salvaged from demolished/renovated buildings?

Specifically I am thinking to buy old/used baths cheaply to use for growing plants in. The natural drainage properties are great as well as the possibility of growing water plants with fish.

Thanks again for your help.

no replies?

also after those big 44 gallon blue drums - anyone know where to buy them second hand?

I don’t know about Taipei, but in Taichung you can find little recycling depots in most neighbourhoods. This is where I get some recycled building materials.

Happy scavenging…

Are they free or do you pay something for them?

At the moment I do get a lot of stuff from the apartment/estate where I live - just look where the rubbish bins are and its amazing what people through out - no bathes or drums though!

The contractors usually destroy those old tubs when they rip them out. They tend to be made of fiberglass.

Yes, yesterday I did see 2 baths that had been ripped out on the roadside in front of an apartment - you are correct - quite badly damaged. Not usable. What a pity that this resource cannot be re-used…

Later on I saw it all loaded on to a small truck and I continue to wonder where they take this load of used materials (wood, baths, etc)…? the wood certainly would be re-usable to for something like making raised garden beds…

… there is a place on XinHai, somewhere between Keelung Rd and Xindian, on the east side of the road, as I recall. I’ll try to get better coordinates next time I go by there, but that wont be for c couple weeks.

I think the place you’re talking about only has salvaged wood. I never went inside though.

Yeh, that’s the one. At least from the outside. Windows and wood. I have also never been inside. Maybe tubs inside? Who knows. Worth a look, though.

Thanks for the ideas.

I rode past another potential area on my bicycle on Sunday - lots of recycling places; maps.google.com/maps/ms?msa=0&ms … cb66909ba6

Will check it out soon with a friend with car.
