Re: Would Australia Help to Defend Taiwan?

Only six per cent of Australians supported an unsanctioned attack on Iraq found by an AC Nielsen poll January 2003, according to the Sun-Herald. About 63% supported a UN attack on Iraq.

Judging by that, it seems like Australians would not support assisting the US in an extra-UN conflict. I don’t think there’s a lot going for Australian public support of following the US’s lead in any armed conflicts.

That lack of support can be changed by persuasive evidence, but unless the evidence is shown, nobody is going to be persuaded.

if it were tibet - oh so fashionable tibet - it would be a different story… :fume:

The PR guy for the whole Free Tibet campaign is amazing. As is the Falun Gong one. Both are supplemented by rich businessmen who understand that its important to communicate in English, something the Taiwan Independence movement has yet to learn!

Edit: But then again if the US somehow decided to invade China, or if China was collapsing, be assured that history suggests that everyone will want to send in their ‘peacekeepers’ to get a ‘piece of the action’.
