Ordered something online and the sending company says they need my name and ID number to ship the item.
Is this a new government customs requirement.? I have received many packages and never been asked for this before.
Anyone know?

It’s the whole real name verification thing.
Foreigners with ARC number have trouble obviously and have to mail in a paper one.
Mail in paper? It is the website I purchased the item from that is requesting the information. They have already came back and said the name doesn’t match the ID. (First Name, Last Name) I guess they need it (Last Name, First Name) who knows, I did say I am not a citizen so my ID is a resident card.
Considering this is a Mainland China store, I am surprised they have the ability to verify name and ID combination.
I googled for real name validation, but I still don’t understand the purpose. Is it something to track / combat illegal goods? In general I have not encountered this until now and have received many packages from overseas.
I think it’s just a way to track import/export and stuff. No idea why they asked for it. If it’s Taobao or Aliexpress it seems they are required to get your info to export stuff to you.
There are a lot of cross strait database sharing.
Just give them your ARC number, but I think there’s a way to get some kind of number from the NIA for these kinds of things… if you don’t have ARC.
Yes I had to give my ID number anytime I order anything from China and they can tell if the number matches your name.
Found out the shipping company is SF Express and just saw a bunch of discussion about that in the EZWay thread.
