This Christmas I want to make eggnog and trifle, and I need brandy! Last year, I used a local brand but it tasted a bit different from how I remember brandy back home. Can anyone recommend a brandy easily found in Taiwan that won’t tast too odd in these two dishes? Thank you.
I’m not a brandy connoisseur but I would think you’d do fine with something like Remy Martin VSOP Gold, 700mls at Costco for $1149; after you’re done adding a bit to your recipes, the remainder will be drinkable, unlike the $600 bottles of [strike]brandy[/strike] cough syrup from your local super.
I agree with Dragonbones. Courvoisier VSOP might be a smidge less expensive, especially when the chain stores begin stocking their CNY specials. It’s usually a little more buttery than Remy, and should also do fine in nog.
Or you may want to try The Nogalyzer. Tequila, Kahlua and Nog, served shaken strained.
You can get Lucky Dragon Brandy at Amart for NT$42!
Carrefour has a couple of cheaper bottles with their? Reflets de France brand. I buy the Calvados sometimes, it seems okay to me.
Dat’s wong in so many ways.

Yeah, it is 42 Baht.
Thanks, everyone. I’m going to go try find these brands.
That Calvados is quite nice, but it’s apple brandy, so quite different.
As has been said, the Courvoisier VSOP will be the best value, with Remy Martin VSOP only slightyl behind in price (and sometimes cheaper by liter with the 750ml plus mini bottle boxes).

Right, but they have a cognac too. I think I got it once and it was okay. I might just pick up another bottle for the holidays. Not in the league of that other stuff for sure, but I’m not sure you need something that good if it’s mostly for cooking, do you?
