Recommend where to go in Taipei

I live outside Taipei. But, I have visited Taipei few times and visited a few places. Such as: National Taiwan Museum, Taipei Fine Arts Museum, National Palace Museum, Miniatures Museum of Taiwan, Museum of Contemporary Art Taipei, Taipei 101, Ximending Walking District, 228 Memorial Park, Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall, Raohe Street Night Market, Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Memorial House.

I would like to visit some more places as I have plan to visit Taipei net month. Can you please suggest a few locations?

Do you like tech and computers?

You might like walking around the guanghua digital plaza and the Syntrend building across it. I used to live nearby and went to look around when I was bored.

Thanks for the suggestion. I like tech. So, will swing by that place,

Stop by Vinyl Decision for a beer or coffee in a cool setting afterward. Nice place across the street,

Dihua Street. Longshan Temple. Lin Family Mansion.

Could you be more specific? What kind of places do you have in mind? What are you interested in? What do you like to do?

It’s easy to find places of interest by just doing a Google search. If you ask on a forum like this you better be more specific and you will be pointed to places you are more likely to be interested in.

You have been to a few museums. Is that what you like to do?
How about:
Taipei Astronomical Museum and National Taiwan Science Education Center [close together and both interesting], if you have kids the Taipei Children’s Amusement Park is right next door.

New art museum: Fubon Art Museum next to the iconic and photogenic Tao Zhu Yin Yuan Building

Cultural events: Huashan 1914 Creative Park and Songshan Cultural and Creative Park

Container hangouts by the river [sunset and booze]: Dadaocheng Wharf + Guandu

If you are interested in music, check out the Taipei Music Center [interesting exhibition, but a bit expensive]

For cultural events:

A bit outside Taipei

  • A trip to Tamsui is always nice.
  • Maokong Gondola + drinking tea
  • A trip to Wulai [indigenous food, mini train, waterfall, and cable car]
  • Yangmingshan, hike up Mt. Qixing or just walk the Qingtiangang grassland, then some foot soaking
  • Beitou, hot spring fun, Thermal Valley

Indoor or outdoor?

Indoor: Guanhua plaza (note that the plaza closes on the first, or last tuesday of the month, I forget which), Syntrend (next door), and Huashan is nearby where Alleycats and Vinyl Decision is. The AC at Vinyl Decision is a bit shit though… just so you know… it will be a little warm. There’s also the national palace museum, and various other museum and exhibits around Taipei. Taipei 101 and the surrounding malls (there are a lot).

Outdoor: Huashan, Yangming Shan, Taipei zoo (good animal exhibits), I think wherever Maokong takes you is interesting, just make sure it’s actually working (they seem to close fairly often for various reasons). The riverside park during the day is actually a good stroll (at night it goes to the dogs), rent a youbike and just bike around it. Then you got the various hot springs and such…

There’s also an exhibition about Fullmetal Alchemist currently there, in case the OP is into that show.

This thread has some good places worth visiting:

I don’t think I ever went back after lol. Was I drunk that day or what

Where? Linsen Park? The best thing about the place, other than the trees, is the couple century-old torii gates that have been left standing in the park. I once saw a father and his son using one of them as a soccer goal.

Well that’s one way to score a goooaaaallllll!!!

Yanmingshan, jiufen areas are gorgeous! Some really cool geology related spots up there north coast, pretty cool to check out.

It’s also slightly cooler in the mountains, only a few degrees, but if you’re going there by bus, like red 5 or 260, keep in mind the return trip bus will not be frequent even if the app or online schedule says otherwise - those buses are going to prioritize the Chinese cultural universities and will not pick anyone up at the terminal stop. It will say 專車 even if the app says red 5.

Honestly bus is unreliable at best.

You really need a personal vehicle to get the most out of these mountain areas. It’s a shame because these roads will be severely congested during the weekends.

Is this your personal experience? I have been to Yangminshan countless times, mostly by bus, and I have never ever had a problem like that. Buses are frequent and they take you back.

Again, not my experience. There might be times when there is more traffic on the main road to Yangmingshan, but they will bar private vehicles from going up that road during those times, so taking the bus is not as bad. If you are talking about Jiufen, again, been there countless of times, traffic can get bad, but it never has been a problem for us taking the bus there.

Personal experience, around 4pm or so this happens. Red 5 runs every 5 minutes but because of the bus skipping the terminal and going straight to CCU, in practice it’s every 20 minutes. 260sh runs like every 20 minutes as well.

A bus every 20 minutes from the Lengshuikeng parking lot is frequent and convenient in my book. Just ignore the buses meant for the students.
