Recommended places to take your kids in kaohsiung/fengshan

the family and i will be returning to taiwan for a month for the first time since 97. i need to find some interesting places to take my kids- 10 and 12 years old- in the kaohsiung area. back in 97 there used to be a water park right in the city. is it still there? any good museums or chucke cheese-like places? thx

I don’t have kids, but I’d suggest the zoo. It’s not the greatest zoo, but it’s ok for a couple of hours. Or the lighthouse on Chichin Island - I was always fascinated by lighthouses when I was a kid.

The new Dream mall has play areas for kids. One for toddlers on the 6th or 7th floor and another larger one in the basement for older kids.

K-Town has a pretty neat Science & Technology Museum. 6 floors of hands-on exhibits that are fun and interesting for kids and bigger kids.

Been there 2x’s with the young cowboy(12) he enjoyed it both times…as did I.

What about Monkey Mountain? That was a pretty nice walk last time I was there, but it was more than 10 years ago.

i imagine the aquarium near kenting is on the list - there are two water parks in the grounds as well …

Visited there same day as the museum…it pretty much sucked. Very aggressive monkeys and too many people pushing and shoving their way up & down the trails. Taking over the ‘rest-areas’ for bar-b-q and filling the air with smoke.

Others may have different opinions. We did not like it.
…$NT 2.00

The monkeys are very very aggressive and will steal anything you have with you but it can be exciting for anyone who hasn’t seen monkeys before.

There are also a few boats in the harbour where you can have a dinner cruise.

A huge temple complex with a massive Buddha statue surrounded by 2000 smaller statues.

Chichin Island with it’s black sand beaches , caves and army lookouts (bunkers or whatever they may be called)

The Blue Lagoon Water Park is great but what time of year are you coming?

Also, the Tuntex-85 floor building has a viewing deck which is worth checking out. The elevator ride up is fun too. Nice buffet on the 32nd floor too.

thanks everyone for your suggestions. we may be going in march during easter vacation or summer vacation.

Anyone with any new input on kaohsiung kid attractions - I might have a weekend in k-town soon with 5 yr old.
The Water Park sounds possible, but is that still running?

I’ve found this

and this on tripadvisor 2010

Or i might just not go. The idea of 2 days without transport in Kaohsiung isn’t that attractive at the moment. I was hoping for some Kaohsiungers to step up to the plate and point out the good stuff.

Though I haven’t been there yet, I hear E-Da World is a place where you can spend a day and still not see it all. I plan to go this weekend if all goes well. There are frequent buses leaving from the HSR station. I hope to get my little girl on skates for the first time.
