Registering a car

What paperwork needs to be done to have your car fully registered and insured (or at least enough to satisfy Taiwanese law)? Are there any other bureaucratic things that need to be done?

What are the costs involved to do this?

I suggest that you go visit the Department of Motor Vehicles in the city/county where you are living, and ask them for specific answers to your questions.

Please let us know what you find out.

Hi there,

I recently bought and registered a car using my name and my ARC card–I think I needed a photocopy of my passport.

As I bought a new car, the registration process was done by my sales agent at Ford–I can phone her to find out more information if you want.

I remember I had to fill in a couple of forms (in Chinese) and submit a valid ARC–there are fees which come to about NT$2,000–including getting the license plates and various other certification (your car has to be checked over, etc.)

Anyway, let me know if you want more information and I will phone the sales person as necessary.
