Hi,
I
Hi,
I
In my case, which was years ago, I got the residence visa from some government office (MOFA ?) Then within 15 days you have to go to the Foreign Affairs Police, (Ximending for Taipei City, Banqiao for Taipei County) to apply for your ARC ($1000NT per year) which you get a few days later, When you get your ARC, don’t forget to ask for a multiple re-entry permit.
Sorry if I haven’t answered everything, but that is what I’m pretty sure of.
BFM,
Did you get the resident visa from MOFA on the spot (during the same visit that you gave them your visa application) or did you have to come back?
If you have to come back, did you leave your passport with them?

Seeker4[/quote]Mine’s a Joining Family Residence Visa, I had to come back after a week or so to pick it up, and I left my passport there.
In addition to the questions above, I’m wondering now if an extension to a VISITORS VISA happens on the spot or if I need to leave a passport behind, etc. ??
((I’m trying to coordinate the various extensions and applications, etc))

What sort of residence visa are you getting, Joining Family, work ?..
Anyone got any more up-to-date info ? Mine’s very old a bit hazy. Someone at least tell me if I’m right or wrong so far.
You take your passport with you to the Foreign Affairs police and fill out a form (you don’t need to leave your passport). They put an extension in your passport. It takes about thirty minutes.
I’ve searched a bit and can’t locate the MOFA or FAP addresses.
I’ve been told that in Taipei the MOFA is on Chi Nan (Jinan) Road just off Zhongshan, and the Foreign Affairs Police office (FAP) is on Chung Hwa (Zhonghua) Road in Ximending.
If anyone can and is willing, directions from MRT stations for those places would really be nice.
In the case of the FAP Office, I’m assuming the starting point would be the Ximen MRT station.
Thanks.

Almas John,
Thanks for the info. Not trying to nitpick, but unclear on one point. You said to go to the FAP, as have other people. Then, the last post has a web address for Taipei City Police Dept (municipal). An excerpt from that website follows:
"Alien visitors with valid 60-day visas and with sufficient grounds may apply at the Taipei Municipal Police Department Service Center, for no more than two visa extensions, each for a maximum stay of 60 days. "
What I’m wondering is whether I need to go to the regular CITY police or the FAP?
Finally, some have said that the correct office to go to is located on 96 Yenping S. Rd. in the Ximen area. The website that you directed me to says the police station is on the corner of Chunghsiao and Chungshan.
Can you clear that up any?
Thanks,

You have to go to the one in Ximending, walk north along Zhonghua road from Ximen MRT station and it’s on the right, That’s the only one in Taipei City that issues ARC’s and visa extensions, you can’t use any other police station.
BFBB,
I found the place exactly where you said. Plus, as I recall, Exit 5 from the Ximen MRT station put me on the right track and within a block or two of the FAP building.
Happy Birthday and thanks a bunch,
