Restaurants, clubs, and bars in Taipei during Chinese New Year

Will they all be closed? Should I even bother going to Taipei during this holiday?

Taipei will be a virtual ghost town during the first 3 days of CNY… everyone’s gone south.

However some places, particularly expat orientated places may stay open, if not they will open after the 4th day and things will be mostly back to normal after the 6th day. You need to check each individual clubs/bars to make sure.

I had a great time in Taipei last CNY. A suprisingly large amount of places are still open, no crowds, discounts everywhere. Me and a mate booked into a hostel and met some teachers over from Korea and we all had a great time, no problems with things being closed.

It doesn’t seem to be like the good old days anymore during CNY in Taipei. In recent years, piles of stuff if open and the city certainly doesn’t feel as empty and ghost-town-ish as it was years ago. Kind of disappointing really. I really used to enjoy the quiet atmosphere during the lunar new year in Taipei.
