RIP Carnegie's Taipei 2001-2022

It happened.

The expat watering hole Carnegie’s has finally closed down.

Not surprised, I haven’t seen it busy on a weekend in years.

Is it closed down or just a name change?

Rebranding. The building is still open, but Carnegie’s, the institution, is now dead. Taipei was the last one left after HK and SG closed.

One of the great tragedies of our time!

End of an era? Or as @marco asked: a rebranding?

We await the news with baited breath.

New investors recognizing the need to get away from the stigma of Carnegie’s reputation.

I think they’re also looking to elevate the experience.

Heard they installed the largest TV in Taiwan but haven’t been.

Oh. It was a chain?

What does Adlon refer to? Is it the Berlin hotel?

Never went. Was it good? What was it like compared to the Brass Monkey?

Reading about pubs makes me realize how much I love spending every minute of free time outdoors.

Beers from 711 sounds tacky, but not if you’re sitting in beautiful mountains and trees.

Lived here for many years and never been to any of these. What did I miss?

It’s not closed, just rebranded.

Carnegie’s operating as Carnegie’s. And Brass Monkey, apparently.

You ain’t missed nothing!

Do yourself a favour and stop by Avenue Fast Casual Eatery almost immediately next door on Anhe Road. It’s one way to see how Taipei has lept forward in the food scene over the past decade.

Now you’re talking. Just in time for the World Cup.

Many Latin friends who have gone back will remember nostalgically the dancing on the bar at Carnage.

Amazing long run though.
Thought it was there before 2001?

TBH I never could pronounce Carnegie’s. After all these years, many words in English still elude me.

I just really liked the double meaning here. :upside_down_face:
